May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

Two of 15 peeped now. It's a debate over who is more excited. Me or my son. This is my first time and its a homemade incubator

are you already putting a spash of I unpasteurized apple cider vinegar in their water? That should help their overall health. Hoping the others stay healthy and strong!

. How many have you lost Mel ? I too lost the one I assisted he was found out by himself in the brooder pen and was freezing the other 10 were tucked under moms wings I dont know why he was solo it just kills me

Same here..........temp a little low this morning..................weird weather here.one day 80's.next 60's.............
Ended up with 42 at lockdown.2 I probably should have tossed....................

Melina and el pollo, I am sorry about your chicks................

I had one last week about 10 days old and do not have a clue what happened.....

Have a fun day all........

Thankyou! Helps a little to know that others loose babychicks too. I just can't stop thinking I could have done more for them. I've had some busy days, so I set up the brooder in the basement and only checked on them once or twice a day dipping beaks and making sure they ate when I was down there but not really having time to monitor them... I'll definitely keep the brooder in the living room for my next hatch to keep the chicks close for those vital first weeks!

For a liter I'd say maybe about a 1/2 tbsp? I haven't found where anyone says exact amounts but even a little helps. And the only way to overdo it is if it makes the water taste so bad they won't drink it. :)

My chicks are hatching! got 3 so far. two eggs have pipped the wrong end, one unzipped this morning but never made it out, the other one pipped maybe 6 hours ago. should I help it? I have 4 other eggs pipped on the right end.

Make sure its WARM water!!!

Thanks! I used really warm water and sprayed very quickly. The humidity only went up a to 49% though. Since then though, I've had 3 pips and they're cheeping! The pip holes are VERY small though - almost like a crack. It's been almost 3 hours since the first pip...very hard not to stand and watch.

Question: Now that I have pips, do I still need to spray them or will opening the bator now cause them to be shrink wrapped?

I do not like to make someone elses decision .afraid I might be wrong.................What I have read is that it can take 24 hrs. from pip to hatch............
If it were me I would wait. Also, there is a sticky explaining when and how to help.
Going to see if I can copy the link for you..................
How is your humidity????????????????????????
