May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

Jnjmanning, sorry about your hatch. I had one that pipped at the wrong end, and I didn't find it till today and it was to late. It was vertical.

Total hatch count. 11 out of 20 hatched. 1 piped the vein and died 2 hours later. 1 is deformed and can't walk, he probably need to be culled, and 1 is trying to find his feet after 8 hours. Difficult hatch for the new highly rated Brinsea Advance EX. Hmm! However a handful of adorable fluffy butts are running the brooder as happy as can be.

Well, took a nap...body not cooperating today. Might have something to do with
the Dr. saying REST..................and having a disabled DH, 70 or so chickens, a hatch requiring help this time,
and a garden full of flowers...(almost out of room for vegies

)
Anyway, woke up to two more Buffs, a zip and a pip..............
I helped the pip from yesterday and it looked a lot like Jaqc's picture.........still had veins.
So took the top partly off and put it back in the inc..........
Looks like I may end up with about a 50% hatch.
That is O.K. with me. Many of the eggs were my own. I did not write the date of collection
on them but am certain several were way to old.
I am so enjoying this thread...........Feels like friends.............................

Jnjmanning,
Man that sucks! I know exactly how you feel. I tried vertical hatching last hatch v.s. horizontal on prior hatch I am not yet convinced that it works for my climate. Still researching at this point though. There are just so many factors to calculate in a bad hatch!

On a positive note my quail are looking good, temp.s holding steady humidity is up and down between 45-50% in the incubator but, being in a sub-tropical area room humidity it more like 75-80%. After reading that prior post about room + incubator humidity, I am concerned about drowning the chicks in those tiny, tiny eggs!

Well it was just a crappy day. And no hubby to console me. Airport run went fine. Hubby is in VA smoochin on our 2 grand daughters they are 2 yrs old and almost 6 months old. Got cows moved, found a new calf, 95lb heifer, got her tagged. Took a little ride looking for coyote signs, found way too many, I always ride "armed" wish I could get the chance to tag one, got my aprons in for my hens. I need to post a pic of that....lol At least I have Tuesday to look forward to!
