May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

. That down color may change in a day or two

I think you're right. I forgot that my original 3 EE's had big changes in their markings over time. Since this is a mixed mutt I'm curious to see what it will be like. :)

Day 22 and nothing is happening - it seems like it is going to be another dud run. I am sooo upset about all of this, it is now the third setting of eggs without any chicks in 2 years. - We set 2yrs back 6 cream crested legbars and last month 6 unknown random and this month 6 what we assume to be Dorkings - none have given us chicks. I did hope to find babies in the bator when I got home today but again zilch. I think these are dead and that spike killed them.

Oes

Oes, what a bummer! I was rooting for you. Have you tried candling yet?

400

well 20 out of 22 not bad for a homemade incubator

. So sorry Helen pls don't give up we will all help you to a successful hatch !

It might be ok. My toddler cracked one of mine and it wasn't until hours later that I found out and then hours later after researching to find out what to do before I waxed it.

I hope so. I'm probably gonna candle again tonight just to make sure it's still okay.

Yes Did that before lockdown. The one egg I did candle looked like there was a chick inside as half was dark the other half though I couldn;t make out veins at that stage but my candling effort was not that great! It is hard to hold an egg a torch and pull a coat over your head inside a dark small closet! Lol!

Anyhow last time last month it was the same. Half the egg dark and "moving!" but when eggtopsied it was just slow cooked scrambled egg.

I am so exited my 11 eggs are on lock down. candle them and saw only 5 with movements the other just have a dark spot and air cell. lets see how many i get.

my chickens would not sit on their eggs so i incubate them. very fertle. havent been able to eat the eggs yet feel bad because they can be babies. lol

Just showing off my breeding rooster for this season. He's so good looking, and almost completely following the breeding standard. This one isn't going in the soup stock anytime soon

He has given a 100% development rate, and about 90% of everything I have stuffed in the bator so far has hatched into healthy fluffy gorgeous chicks. Makes hatching so much fun!
In the background is my silkie bantam hen. And alot of horse manure being composted - the manure pile is definitely the chickens fav place on the property. Great setting for my photos - or not

Congrats on all the new babies out there. I have quite a few due for the next couple of days, will keep you posted!
