. I feel so bad for the ones that died. This is coming so hard for me because i like hatching and seeing them run around but hubby dont like the smell inside the house, and the garage is just too hot for them. help please
What bedding do you use? I use the horse bedding and it helped out with the smell so much. I was having the same stinky problem. Hope this helps

Well we are up early here mother nature set her earth quake clock for 3:55 am dogs outside going nuts birds in all the coops clucking and cackling like a fox is digging at the door no damage that I can see have to wait for the sunrise to get a good look at every thing usgs web site states it was 5.5 down on the border with panama

Well quail still fine candled all looks well, lock-down in a couple more days. I sold off all my extra RIR chicks this afternoon and on a sad note, a dog got into the run and killed my entire flock. I am pretty devastated, I live in the city and never thought I would have so many predator issues. I think I will be tearing down that run and starting over in a new area. Clearly I need electric fencing and twice the reinforcements. Looks like I will be joining the June hatch-a-long after all since I need to start over.
I'm sending out positive vibes and hoping to get some back, Congrats again to those with healthy chicks, condolences to those who have lost, and good luck to those still waiting.
I am so sorry about the loss of your flock. That is my biggest fear. We have the normal predators, coyotes, raccoons, fox and possums (none seen on our property, yet) but the dogs are the biggest issue. We live in a rural area and for some reason people that live here believe they do not need to keep their dogs on their property and they are not accountable for any destruction by them on others. We have a farm down the road raising cows and horses. They have lost a foal because of a neighbors dog. My husband had one come up on him at our farm and it was growling and had raised hair on its neck. He picked up a 2x4 he was working with and ran after it. We are looking to get a LGD for our property. We are looking for either a Anatolian Shepard or a Great
Pyrenees. I have seen ads for a combination of both. All I have read, they are very protective of their charges.

Hello everyone! New member here.

We had the incubator going all month and several hatched from 5/21-5/24. There's a few more pips and what not, so I expect the remaining eggs to hatch by Tuesday. (Of the original 20, around 7-10 hatched and sent off to new homes!) Only disappointed that my Jersey Giant hasn't hatched along with the pure Silkiies.

NEWS FROM THE OES!!!!!!!!

NEWS FLASH!!!!!!! - is anyone out there?????????????

OMG folks - today is day 24. Yesterday no sign of life and I thought since DH is working with the electric putting a feed out to a shed it doesn;t matter if the the lecky is turned off and the bator goes cold. There was no sign of life anyhow. Even float tested one and zilch.

This morning DH came upstairs carrying one of the eggs and I thought oh well he is for eggtopsy then! He decided to candle before he did anything and the egg was completely clear.
He broke it and the only thing inside was an orangy red yolk and nothing more.

Then he said to me - didn;t you think one egg had something in it???? I said yes it is the one far left at the back but I think it is long dead? Then he said oh well go and get it and we will see if I can candle it? So we went to the Bator and I went to grab the egg out and - GUESS WHAT FOLKS!!!!!!!!
It had a whole int he top!!!!! --------

A PIP on day 24!!!!!!!

But we were on our way out to a meeting and the humidity was only 47!!!!! So I dashed into the kitchen and filled the spraygun with warm water from the tap best I could do in an emergency. The temp was already low because DH had opened it already so I quickly opened it up again and sprayed round the top and a spray dusting of the 5 remaining eggs. I also doused the sponge!

I noticed on a quick glance as I left the house that the temp was back to 37 and the humidity was 62!
Got back about 20 mins ago and the Temp was 38 and the humidity 48 so I did it again
The chick IS ALIVE - you can hear it and I can clearly see the beak through the membraine trying to break through. earlier when we saw the whole DH flicked a bit of the shell back and there was clearly very red blood on the underside so it was not long started. Now the blood has disapeared and the membrain is not hard and white but moist and clear.

Any advice - don;t want to lose this baby! - I can hear chirping and hope another egg will follow as I don;t really want a single baby! DH says he will intervine if it isn;t out by t time??? We had to do this with two shrink wrap once before about 3 years back.

You all OES is having a baby!!!!!
HELP - ?????? How do I maintaine the Humidity better????? I bought a straw while out to syringe water through the top into the sponge so I wont have to keep opening the bator.
I reckon its been pipped about 7/8 hrs now?
