May Online Hatching Egg Swap-Eggs should be sent

I put LIVE HATCHING EGGS on my boxes in black perm marker..don't know if that helped or not.

I'm new to candling, BUT, I did see veining in eggs which now have air sacs at the large end, but I can't tell if they are alive or not?

Not experienced enough. I did see 'something' moving around in one of the eggs, first time I ever saw THAT!! It was cool, but still kinda freaked me out!

So far, no stinky ones and I do have one egg that no matter how dark the room is, I CAN NOT see ANYTHING! no air space or anything, it's like, I can't see thru the shell, it is a dark shell though..
hu.gif
So I guess we will have to see what comes out! lol

Oh, btw, what happens to the other eggs I added to my incy if I have to lock down my swap ones? Do I just not turn those for 3 days, or until hatching??

I know! I am really excited to be able to sex them at hatch. I am hoping for 2 boys and 5 girls!

I bought some Norwegian Jaerhon eggs before I got these, but didn't get them until a week later. Amyable sent me 20 eggs (!!!!!!!!!!!!) and at 5 days, it looked like only 3 were developing.

I need to candle them again, but haven't yet.
I've had good results from Amyable's eggs. 7 of 9 hatched for my on Friday, 4 boys and 3 girls. Don't toss anything yet. I had a group of shipped eggs (different breed) that at day 10 I thought were duds, but at day 14 they took off and still hatched on time.

I normally keep one bator empty but this time I filled them all so I just unplugged the ones on lock down till hatching ceased then removed the left overs and plugged it back up.

but i sent my eggs to shellyga.

and the second set went to kim also, but that was a different kim (wolftracks) and they just sent out so i know they're not developing yet. LOL

hope you've got room for a dozen. 8) and hope they all got there safe of course.

i got 2 boxes today, and of course, hubby forgot to bring them home. so
fl.gif
that the extra day's sit won't hurt them.

on the flip side, i've got 2 broodies now, and debating what to do with them. i may try to break the broody, i've got people waiting on their eggs...

I hate the PO!

Not a single cracked egg, but I only see aircells in 5 and they are floating all over. I'm going to let them sit and I'll set them late tonight or in the morning. Not going to use the turner for a few days and see if that helps.

I usually get dark eggs I can't see through and I've opened eggs that didn't hatch and I swear it looks like someone made scrambled eggs. I've set eggs with loose cells before and got a couple to hatch, so I hope that's the case this time.

I swear that see my address and say "Hey! It's that crazy lady that gets eggs in the mail. Lets shake it real good just in case!"

oh man, sorry to hear that! fwiw, the eggs are fresh enough that sometimes the air cells are super small at first. most of them were laid thursday and friday, so hopefully that's all it is. I agree, let them sit upright for a few days in the incubator and see what happens. i've had other eggs like that, that i was sure were scrambled internally, and surprised by chicks 21 days later (marans eggs, and too dark to see anything going on). that's what i like about the dorkings tho. you can see development usually by 3 or 4 days, 5 for sure. i have seen a couple as early as 2 days i knew for sure were cooking. 8)

They probably did go to shellyga. Yes, I am a different Kim than (wolftracks). LOL

Anyways, I have 2 little quail that are in the brooder. Eggs came from MaryRuth. She sent me banty eggs then sent the 4 surprise quail eggs. I opened the other 2 up and one never developed. And the other developed but quit early. At least I got 2. From her banty eggs I have 2 out of 11 that went into lockdown.

This is my first time having quail. They sure are tiny and fast little buggers. I took one out to put in the brooder and then went to get the 2nd and it was gone. It just jumped out of the incubator and feel into a container on the floor. Thank god I was able to find it. I have noticed they like to hang out in the small dish of water I have for them.

I noticed one has stripes and the other is a solid color. Not knowing anything about these little guys is what is the significance of the different colors? Does that tell me one might be a female and other a male or just different variety of the breed? If variety what is what?

the dark one is a brown (normal) the other is probably a white. has nothing to do with sex. at about 6 weeks the brown, if a roo will have a rust colored breast, a hen will have speckles. the white, if it lays an egg you'll know. LOL
