I brought 6 peeps home yesterday, little banties, adorable, supposedly 1 week old. I think they're younger. Anyway, one is chirping MUCH louder than the rest. Is just whining, like one of my kids, or is this a sign that something is wrong? They have plenty of clean water and food, and are warm enough. Not too warm though. Any ideas?

Well, naturally, you consider if it's not warm enough, too warm, hungry or in pain. However, I have one broody raised six-week-old pullet chick that peeps constantly! There's nothing wrong with her, she's just cheep-powered! She's cheeps everywhere she goes, no matter what she's doing. Drives me nuts! Some are just loudmouths.

does its little bottom have any dried poop stuck to it? If so it would need to be cleaned off with a damp warm cloth. If this isn't the problem then I don't know.

Well now I have 4 kids and I swear my daughter hasn't shut up since the day she was born. Moved to Virginia and called her mother 3 times a day. Good garden o' peas! Maybe you gotta a Katie chick!

That's too funny, my daughter that whines too much is named Katie too, LOL.

I'll run out and check her bottom. Thanks everyone.

Want to know something funnier? My 8 yr old Kaitie is a motor mouth too! I swear she hasn't shut up since she learned to talk LOL! And when she whines, it sounds like she's speaking "dolphin".

As far as chicks... I had a talker too. Her name is Chirpy. She is now a beautiful 16 week old EE girl who hardly ever makes a noise! She's ninja quiet when she sneaks up behind me to peck at my shoes

um...dmdhart....just whose bottom were you running out to check? Your daughter's or your chick's?

Anyway, as someone who has successfully dealt with 'pasty butt' with the help of other Bycers there are usually signs of the chick being listless compared to the others so maybe yours just is talkative.

OMG! My 5 year old Katie is a jabberjaw. Mouth keeps going all day until she crashes at bedtime.

Does that name Katie means "jabberjaws"?

If checking my teenagers bottom will get her to stop whinning and chatting...I'M IN!!!

I know now, Dont name anything Katie.
Or is it just a girl thing. 11 year old daughter doesnt hush either but her name is Deanna.

But if the baby is cheaping alot check for warmth, food and water. If it has everything maybe it is a Katie.
