McDonald's Drive Thru Rant *Rawr*

Just my two cents:
I find it amusing that many people refer to fast food places as "restaurants."
It's also pointless to complain about the "service." These people don't get tips... their goal is to get paid, not serve you.
I hope I did not offend anyone who has worked in fast food, it just doesn't seem to be a very customer-oriented business. It's a business made to dumb-down unhealthy food into a production line and charge people way more that it's worth. They make money - you get a bag of salt & fat that you neither had to cook nor even get out of your car to eat.
The nearest fast food place to me is McD and it's a 15 minute drive to get there. The food sucks. Everything seems to taste fried - like they had the salads sitting next to the fries or something. And the bun (no matter what kind of sandwich) seems to always be dripping with grease. Eeewwwww!
IMO... a meal should be enjoyed. If we're going to stop somewhere to eat... we're at least going to go in, not drive through. I prefer to cook my own food, but I understand that's not always possible - especially on the Interstate 500 miles from home.
I'd rather eat a warm 8-hour-old PB&J that "fresh" fast food.

I think I can feel my arteries clogging up just from reading that list. (Or I'm just sulky because hubby and I started a diet today and I'm out of calories for the day.

Where are the mom and pop diner businesses? I remember the Better Boy resturaunts and they were GOOD! My grandmother used to work there and she would tell us to try this and try that one. She was a manager of the place and man, folks that knew her said she was STRICT on cleaness and freshness, nothing fake about preparing food!

On the flip side Took our Granddaughter to McDonalds the other day. It was 1:30 so it was kinda busy. We placed our order and the girl at the register asked our name which she printed ontop of the receipt. I stood there with a few other people waiting after 10 minutes I was getting rather heated. I noticed that all the food being prepared was going to the take out window. Then when two other customers ordered after meand ordered the same chicken nuggets and got their orders immediately I kinda lost it. The girl taking the orders said that she only took the orders she couldn't help that I was waiting. I told her if I didn't get my order I wanted my money returned and that I would go to Burger King. Finally she took our order and handed it to the girls preparing the orders and told them it was a rush. When they finally brought the order they asked what I had ordered, by that time I couldn't remember exactly. Why ask for your name if they werent using it. Talking with the other people waiting I noticed that the people preparing the orders were managers. I told them right then it would be the last time we would be in McDonalds. Granddaughter will have to learn to like BK nuggets instead. The lady next to me was there ahead of me and still waitng when I got our food. I told her the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

If having to wait for your fast food to be brought to you is such a trial, then thank God most of us don't have more pressing matters to worry about. A little perspective can do wonders for patience (and often spare an underpaid worker from any more harassment). God bless America if the worst part of your day is someone screwing up your fast food order. If it's really that bad, vote with your feet.

Many, many years ago I worked at McDonalds. If we had a customer wait that long in the drive-thru, we would have been fired. If the restaurant is understaffed, that is poor management.

Agreed.
I work at Hungry Jacks (Australian Burger King)

For starters, we arent dumb enough to have something that takes 9minutes to cook. Our slowest takes four.

And last time I worked, we broke record sales, and our average Drive thru time from Order being taken, to the customer driving away with their food was 2:19.

How an order can take ten minutes I will never understand. Personally my worst was about six when the darn PEOPLE couldnt decide what they wanted.

Oh yeah, if you want fast service time, work out what the hell you want before you get to the counter, sheesh people, it's not rocket science.

And in amongst all these complaints I'd like to add..

YOU ARE GETTING FED BY TEENAGERS

that in itself should scare you.

I'm the kind of person who wants to be good at their job, and I am. I smile a lot, do everything I can for customers, snap at the crew till the get their lazy asses working.

Even with our awesome managers and the other senior crew like myself, the majority of our staff are still teenagers.

Teenagers plus Food was a bad idea from the start.

For example
Me: Trent, dont microwave that, the mayo will go rancid and you could give someone food poisoning.
Trent: But it's faster that way
Me: Yes Trent, it's all about the speed, Dont worry about the quality or food safety, as long as you can scrape 2 seconds of the service time.

Needless to say, he stayed nice and quiet and did what he was told for the next 10minutes.

What gets me is that McDonald's doesn't automatically give out mustard. You have to ask for it, and then they look at you like you are some sort of weirdo. And when you get it, it is some little packet that has been around forever.

And most of the staff in Arizona don't really speak and understand English. Moustasa por favor!

What I don't get is those of you in this thread complaining about someone ranting about McDonald's. You have fair warning in the title that it is a rant and possibly about McDonald's. Don't want to read it? Then don't click it

I don't understand why anyone would voluntarily eat fast food. It's disgusting and has no redeeming value. It's basically like eating poison. Why do people care so little about their health?
