A friend of mine received chicks the first week of March. They were vaccinated. She has had similar problems, and we have been chatting back and forth for about a week now about this. I MAY have lost one chick to this (mine were vaccinated) but I received my chicks the end of Feb, and the 4 I lost died so quickly that I couldn't tell you for sure what they died of. She called and talked to MMH this morning, and was told that it was a bad vaccine batch, and as far as she could tell, isolated to the chicks shipped around the first week of March. She said they were very nice, very cooperative, and refunded her losses, even though it's been more than 48 hours.
In my opinion, McMurray is a very reputable company, and my dealings with them have been nothing but courteous and compassionate. This sort of thing could have happened to ANYONE, and as someone pointed out, they have not been around for so long by selling sick chickens. I've also been in customer service enough to know that, in this day and age of split-second communications, that something like this could seriously impact their business. However, it is also my belief that it is how they respond to this situation that will make or break them more than the issue itself.
For me, they have responded well, and have made good on their promise of live, healthy chicks. Remember, when you call them, that they have probably been inundated by calls lately - I'd be a little cranky, too.
Be calm, be nice, and I'm sure they will make it right.
My condolences to those of you who have lost chicks... it
is heartbreaking in any circumstance.
