meal worms. alive or freeze dried??

Is it better to feed my chick's freeze dried meal worms or alive one's??

The freeze dried ones are almost guaranteed to have come from China. I forgot where I read it, but the mealworms raised in China are often fed some horrible things to make them grow faster. Not sure if you care about that sort of thing, but there you are, if you do. Now if you buy and raise your own mealworm colony (easy to do), most likely they came from a local USA place. Even if the local place originally got their starter population from China, the offspring would be better raised. I suppose there could be USA growers using the nasty products on their worms, but there are sellers out there advertising specifically that they don't do those things.

How often would you give the hens the worms...and approx how much each?

I have fed my chicken fried and live... They will take them anyway they come. I started on the dried in a mason jar to teach them to come and without even shaking the jar they come running if I touch it they go nuts!!! It's adorable! I have wondered how much though, I worry a lot about making them sick... Or them getting sick...
