This is my breeder bin. It holds larges pupating and the tiny tubs are pupaes i have pulled out and they change to beetles and climb up the cardboard egg crate. I shake them into a container and weigh them so i can have an accurate count of current beetles. Current count for my two beetle bins is 5684 beetles. Any questions please ask.

Wow, that's a big set up! I still haven’t been able to see any worms yet.... I'm thinking that they will grow big while I am away visiting my grand babies.....When we get home I'll be able to feed a lot to my hens... Rae

Some of my bugs are dying off...Do I need to get them out? Rae

no they dont even notice besides they might eat them. It may be a sign of something wrong though. Check temps moisture and check grain for mold.
I think they are dying of old age... all the others are doing really strong and healthy, they are really busy beavers... I can't remember at what age you said they start dying off....Rae

mine died between 12 weeks and 16.

I'm so surprised!!! I've been thinking that I was going to dump that oatmeal and bran because I've had it since November and I haven’t had any worms yet.... Today I opened the drawer and drew a line in it and I saw all of these little squiggly things moving. I couldn't believe my eyes. I ran to the kitchen and got some baby Carrots. I waited for a while and went back and lifted a baby carrot and there were a bunch of baby worms hooked on it. So it took 4 months for my eggs to hatch. I am still in shock. lol Rae

Patience is most important in the beginning. Glad it is working out for you!

I'm going to sift the other drawer that has been full of bugs since November. Then in 4 months I'll have another drawer full of worms...And I was just going to order more mealworms. lol

I'm really super excited, I just went and checked on them, each baby carrot had lots of little worms on it. So I went and got some more Carrots for them. I just can't believe I have that many worms in there. Lovemealworms, about how long does it take for the little worms to get to 1"? I'm so happy that soon my hens will have some really good protein. Just the right time for spring! Good night, going good to bed...Rae
