Mean rooster

I haven't had a single aggressive rooster since I stopped handling. Hand feeding and petting a rooster are generally seen as submissive behaviors by a handled rooster. Others say it's fine, but not in my experiences. I raise a few roosters each year. All are respectful. Hopefully you can convince him to behave.

I too raise cockerels every year, and have three to five cock birds in my flock all year. They move out of my way, and don't think bad thoughts about humans. Any cockerel who's being an idiot will get watched, and usually finds his way to the freezer if he tries to challenge me.
There are many cockerels, and a very select few need to stay in the flock. Only the good ones!

Get him moving away from you; walk 'through' him, never around him. Read beekissed article about reforming bad roosters ASAP. Put him through 'boot camp', and see if he can avoid 'freezer camp'!

So was my rooster... might want to read about Henry Jr. I did learn a lot about bad male behavior from him before he went in the freezer.

Yes they are all from one clutch
They are confined at night but have a large covered run about 1/4 acre.

IMO,there is nothing wrong with a. Friendly rooster,I raise all my roosters and hens to be friendly a and have not came across this issue.You must earn their struts as they must yours .Everytime he attacks spray him with water hose.You should have been dominanting them way long ago.Whne walking straight,neevr walk around them.Walk taright through them so they know your he boss.Move freely never act afraid or concerned around them,they will use that as weakness.Do these steps with all the non aggressive ones and you shouldn’t have to worry about their hormones driving them to you.If all fails for other rooster,if you can’t cull him,find someone who can,or give him to someone who is willing to deal with his behavior.

All my chickens are raised to be held and petted. They are not used for food or eggs really just pets. I am hoping he is just having a bad period. I will continue picking him up and letting him. I can hand feed him and he is very gentle taking it out of my hand. He is really gentle with my hens and finds them treats (bugs,worms). I will just have to watch him for awhile hopefully he will get over himself.lol

I can assure you I am not scared of my chickens. I don't walk around them they move out of my way and are very respectful of me. He was too until the other day. He is now but he had tried before to show his bad side and we can to a quick understanding who is boss. This happened very suddenly. I was wondering if something frightened him when I wasn't home could he have been in shock and not realize it was me. He seems to be his normal loving self now.
Me being scared of chickens would be like me scared of my 5 year old grandson.
