I have 4 and 3 of them are mean, mean, mean! I have to carry around a stick anytime I'm around them and have eyes in the back of my head, never know when one of them is gonna take off runnin and flog me!

1st is my head rooster Big Daddy, hes a year old BO (part of my original flog)

2nd is Chicken Noodle, hes a year old BO (part of my original flog)

3rd is Sally Sue, hes a year old OEGB (part of my original flog) (most of the during the day I put him in a big cage with shade, food, water and roost, put when hes out any chance he get he comes after me).

* 4th rooster charlie, hes only 6 months old and hasnt started floggin yet, hes a BO/RIR (sometimes I let him run the yard if I can get him out of the chicken run during the day)

I know I have too many roosters, but I would like to keep them. We are adding on to the chicken run and building 1 or 2 smaller chicken coops so I can separate them. Do any of you all have a rooter pen or anything?

I have 7 free range roosters (4 serama, 1 campine, 1 BO and 1 mix). We had 8 but one flogged DS. He died as a lesson to the others...none of them have ever misbehaved since that day.

Just sayin....

Life is too short and precious to put up with mean roos.

If you want a roo but aren't particular, ask the people in your area if you can have their packing peanuts. Or if you are close to a hatchery they will probably sell you the cockerel chicks for the cost of selling them. I'm giving away a couple of dozen Red Sexlink cockerel chicks at the next hatch. Easier for me if someone picks them up than for me to gas them and take them to the wildlife rehab center.

True... So once they start flogging me more than likely they wont stop........

Is there a reason you want to keep them all?

If they are mean, you would NOT want to breed that into your next batch of chicks, would you?
None of them are rare breeds, meaning you can find other roos of the same breed, to use as breeding stock.
Many people want to GIVE away nice roos.... or sell them very cheaply...

I had ONE mean roo and gave him away--w/ full disclosure of his nasty habits... I want my chickens to be fun --something to enjoy..and I refuse to deal with ANY animal who doesn't act grateful to be here....

I had some really cute, adorable roos as well and wanted to keep them all. Then they started getting real mean with the girls...they would even work together to corner one, then bite her wherever just to hold her down, pulling out feathers and all. They had to go...processed all 3 of those mean buggers and the girls are much calmer, sweeter, and the alpha roo is back to his sweet self again.

It's not worth having aggressive, nasty roos-at all.

Tis the season too. Seems all roos have the "Spring Fling" feeling going on and get a little naughty! LOL Mine all do in spring and then by summer they calm down. Mine all have their own hens though and are not together.

There really are great roosters out there. Any rooster you can not turn your back on, should go to chicken heaven. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with your youngest one.
