Meat Duck Quality/Production Standards

Okay! New question! How does one go about weighing a duck? Because now Phil is telling me it's impossible. I'm not sure if this project is going to happen.

You could weigh them the same way my hubby weighs our dogs? Hubby will pick our dogs up and hold them while he steps on a human scale.

I could use this as a last resort, but the ducks will need to all be weighed around the same time - at the 4-H fair. And there won't be a hard, flat surface to put the scale on.

Get a couple of cinder blocks and a level? Then you could create a flat even surface to place scale at fair.

How will we keep the duck calm and immobile?

I'm really starting to get discouraged about actually doing this project and running it. If anyone has any advice at all, please share it.

If the ducks are used to being handled, and used to being put in a bucket, they will fret less. Draping a sheet or towel over them will also help.

Hang in there. It won't go perfect the first year - that is what the second year is for.
