Meat Ducks That Aren't Loud...

They fly too don't they? I'm surprised they fly with how big they get. Might want to get them pinioned....?

Not sure I've never raised this breed before.

Muscovy ducks, hands down are the best. I have both Runners and Muscovies and they have the most meat and are very quiet. The males make a hissing sounds and the females make a chirpy sound. Also the females and the young males can fly very well. Once they know where home is their flying is not an issues as they always come back home.

As you can see their is lots and lots of meat on a Muscovy.

How is duck breast meat?

I've only had a pekin from a few years ago and I roasted the whole duck in the oven... I cooked it bad as it was greasy... havn't ate it ever since.
 
i thought i would just add that muscovy duck is different from anyother duck evolutionwise so they taste different. i have never tasted anything other then scovy so thats duck to me but people say it tastes more like veal then duck and it is also less greasy then normal duck.
 
Some people compare it to beef. We like to make a stir fry and use sliced muscovy breast. Yummy. Muscovy duck is not greasy like other ducks. We always skin ours instead of plucking them.

Beauty, time to chime in. I have been raising Muscovy ducks now for about two years, a couple of hundred over that time have passed through our chickenyard. We have eaten mountains of them, both drakes and ducks, both excellent. I have recently sold the last 10 females to someone who wanted a smaller duck for the table. That leaves me with Sir Drake, the drake, and Cookie, Pepper, Girl and Sybil, the breeding gals. They have began to all lay again, after a break of a couple of weeks. One of the gals is going broody all ready. Not sitting on the eggs, but one of the nest boxes is full of down, someone is gonna be sitting any day now.

Our females hatch out three clutches each yearly. That is one dilly ding dang amount of ducks for the table and sales. We LOVE to eat Muscovy, I love that fact that the drippings are so grease free, to make the gravy for the mashed potato dinner, we love mashed potatoes and duck gravy. My preference for cooking most Muscovy meals are to roast the bird in a roasting bag, oh dear, should pulled one out of the freezer.

The Muscovys are indeed a quiet bird. The male hisses now and then -- the ducks peep, sometimes they emit a honk, something similar to a goose, but that is rare. The ducks are the most wonderful mothers, and speak to their babies long before the eggs are hatched. I see them climb into their dark nest boxes, the talk and talk and to the eggs, and then so silently climb upon them and keep them warm and loved. The mountains of down that the birds pull out of their bellies never ceases to amaze me. And looking at each beautiful girl, one could never tell that they had pulled out half their belly feathers to keep their babies warm and loved. Even when I check with my hand inside to ensure that there are no pieces of eggshells that the mother has forgotten to remove from the nest after hatching, the mother just peeps and pushes gently on my hand, with that gentle encouragement to not bother her. They are loving and beautiful ducks, silent as the day is long, and darling. I will always have a Muscovy clan to grace my chickenyards. Have a wonderful day.

The Muscovy comes from South America and is the only duck not related to Mallard duck. That's why if a Musovy is bred with another duck the produce sterile offspring (mules). I read a while back that the Muscovy is one of the premire meat ducks in Europe.

Muscovy is my choice! I have seen breast go for 32.00 a pound on the internet!
I like mine grilled, boneless skinless. I coat with a little EEV, and add spices and grill it like I would a steak. It even has a beef texture to it. Everyone that I have gotten to try it around here, loves it and I have even gotten a few people into raising them for meat.
I have also let my male breed with a rouen and the mules grew fast and tasted just as good!
They are great mothers, and I have never had to take a duckling from momma cuz she didn't finish! Breaking a broody is nearly impossible!!!!
