I am off to pick up 25 Cornish X's in the morning. This will be my first experience with meat birds and I am really looking forward to it. I have their brooder all set up just waiting for them. I'm in the process of building a tractor for them and will set up a snow fence to give them extra room during the day. Wish me luck!

I am getting 75 meat birds in July....i haven't had them for almost 15 years. I decided to get them to help feed my daughters and their family some home grown chicken....not the store bought chemical ones. I now have time and the room soooooo why not.

They are home. And will be kindly taken care of for the next 8 weeks. Boy, can these things eat already!

I fed mine 24hr a day for the first couple weeks then I went to every 12 hrs,now they're 9 weeks old and around 7 to 9 lbs. I didn't have any leg problems or flip.processing tonight

My meaties are now 3 weeks old today. I weighed a few this morning. Biggest was 2.1lb and smallest was 1.5lb. I have not lost any yet and am keeping my fingers crossed. I am moving them out of the basement this weekend but think they will go in the garage for another two weeks before they go out to their new tractor. Weather in New Hampshire has not been that nice recently and we are still getting nights in the 30s-40s. I started the 12 hours on and 12 hours off and they go nuts when I put food out in the morning. It is hard to believe but 20 crosses drink 2 gallons of water every day. I have been putting electrolytes in their morning gallon of water and am hoping this will help keeping them healthy until harvesting.

I have 30 and mine are 3 weeks old as well and growing rapidily. I don't know how you stood the smell in your basement. I couldn't stand the smell in my garage for two wks. :sick

Out they go! At least for tonight. They spent the entire day outside in their new tractor and I decided to keep them there tonight. Temps are supposed to be a low of 50 tonight. I did put a heat lamp in there with them just to make sure they are ok. I will probably go check on them around midnight just to make sure. Hope fully all will be moving in the morning. They are 3 1/2 weeks so I would think they would be fine.

My Cornish Roasters are just over two weeks old and my husband is demanding that I move them out of the garage to the chicken tractor:) He hates the smell. I change the shavings every two days and they still stink.

mine dressed out to about 6 to 7 lbs the average was 6.67lb so they were a little bigger than i thought

How old were these birds? I am raising my first cornish rock X and I can't imagine that mine will be that big in the 6 weeks---where I purchased my birds they said it only takes 6 weeks????
