Medistatin Dose for Vent Gleet

Are mites contagious to other birds?

Would they cause the diarrhea?
Is the treatment everyday for 5 days or 1 day every 5 to 7 days?
Yes, they will infest all your birds and their housing.
You want to get rid of them.
Mites suck blood, heavy infestations can cause anemia, they can affect production, feed conversion, make your birds miserable.

You can find Permethrin dust or spray at stores like TSC. You can find spray premixed or buy a concentrate you mix yourself. Dust is in a can.

Treatment is in 5-7 day intervals = meaning treat your birds and clean out/treat your housing once every 5-7 days days.

I will pick some up ASAP. I did wash the one that showed the mites in the picture. Looks better back there but there were some pecking marks and a white crust still on her vent. Any ideas? I put blu kote on the pecking marks but was confused about the dry crusty vent.

It won't hurt to put a bit of fungal/yeast cream on her vent.
Hard to know if that's just urates sticking on the vent or if she's got Gleet. If she's smells of yeast, then Gleet.

Picking marks could be from other hens or she may be picking at herself because of the mites.
Hopefully once you get rid of the mites, things will resolve.
