Meet Marilyn - a Splash Orp Roo and EE hen cross chick - Pic heavy

LOL! Boy, does that bring back memories. I used to have grey named Max. Ex took him after the divorce. Max could mimic my voice, and my ex's. He used to call the kids into the room, using one of our voices, then he would start giggling as soon as they came in the room. They would yell, "Max!" And he would blow rasberries at them. He would also call the cat in with my voice, and nip its tail when it ran in.

Beautiful little girl you've got there! Congrats!

The greys make all kinds of noises and talk up a storm. The worst is softly crying like a baby (something they knew before moving in with us) – oh it drives me crazy

– the male Boo likes to do it when he is tired and ready for bed. Luckily, they do not mind too much the feathered babies coming thru the house. Here they are checking out the goslings that were in the house for a couple weeks.

And back to Marilyn - thank you all who think she is lovely. She has stolen my chicken lovin' heart.

I am so afraid in my heart of hearts that she could be a Marty. Her (

I hope my delusion is strong enough to influence Marilyn.

(come on Marilyn, come on)

Too cute, chicks and parrots! I love them both!

I asked my vet about having my chicks near my parakeet and finches and he said not to let them come into contact -- they could give each other diseases that are mild in the host species but deadly to the other, has anyone else asked their vets about this? I raised my chicks in my kitchen, luckily we had a dog door separating the kitchen from the living room where the parakeet and finches are so they have never met. We always wash our hands when going between species, based on our vet's advice. I'd hate for something to happen to our pets, or someone elses, that could have been preventable.

BTW, handsome birds all around!

Does your gray act friendly towards the chicks??

we have one, but i am worried she would attack them...

are your chicks vaccinated?
my mom always worries her bird will die from some chicken disease

thanks!

Thanks for your concern. Yes our avian vet is aware of our “interspecies” mingling and not concerned about it. Of course the parrots/soft bills could infect the chicks also. Washing your hands and changing clothes are great precautionary practices. Our intermingling is not for everyone – I certainly understand.

Thank you for the compliments.

Alvin (our female) is the Alpha bird of the house, so I must watch her closely around the little ones. She is quick and very smart (she is 17 years old) so I must watcher like a hawk. Boo is a watcher and observer but very sly in his trickiness (he is 18 years old). I do not trust either of them alone with the chicks or goslings (because I do trust that they would try something painful for the little ones)

My chicks are not vaccinated.
