Meet my Chick!

Hey everyone! Hopefully we had our last freeze last night
Flock is still cooped up... will spend tomorrow cleaning up their yard and trying to fix the net... I might have to get new nets... and then maybe they can go out... it’s just so nasty and muddy!

Not really but they do float. They do catch hypothermia quickly. Here is a very young Ned having fallen into the pool. Watch as he cannot walk after he gets out. Ned does swim over to me. The normal body temp for a chicken is between 105°F and 107°F (40.6° and 41.7°C). He clearly could not maintain that temperature when in 84°F water despite the sun and hot air temp of 92°F. Even 92°F is below his normal body temp.

Oh that brought it all back. Such a scary moment.

I'm a bit confused by this thread as I it's called meet my chick but I never seem to see any chick pictures here. If this is the wrong thread sorry but I'll add some of my pictures here. The grey chick is the oldest at 11 days old, he's already figured out how to hop up to the second level.

Oh that brought it all back. Such a scary moment.

It was so frightening and yet, as I think about it, the one critically injured or sick chicken that I have actually been able to save.

There is history regarding the name of this thread. The name was changed by moderators. This thread was started to document the chick life of @WhoDatChick rooster.

Hi there! This thread was called TRUMP 2020 and it was to introduce my new NN chick... see first page... his name is TRUMP.. but the ones in charge did not want anything political.. even though it wasn’t.. so they changed the name to Meet My Chick... I have considered to change it to something different myself but just haven’t.
You are welcome to share your flock here and tell us about you... if you’d like! Your chicks are so cute! What breeds do you have and how many?

Good evening everyone! Today I took down the torn net and threw out the old picnic table and chair from their yard. Then I let them out... they were so happy! But the minute there was no more net two giant hawks fly right over!! So I tied string criss cross across the whole yard.. I think it was a blessing in disguise that the net broke.. cuz the tied string looks so much better than the droopy net! Plus, no more leaves and sticks getting stuck all over the top! I’ll get some pics tomorrow.
I also have some drama happening in the flock! Yall know how Goosie is ‘special’... well TRUMP is really going after her! I haven’t been able to figure out if he just doesn’t like her or she is doing something to deserve his attacks! Like, I think she may be constantly trying to fight with Jan ... and when she does that that’s when he goes after her... I’m gonna have to sit in there a observe what’s going on. If he is going after her all the time without warrant then I may consider removing her from the flock.
