This is our Buff Orpington rooster Peter!

Peter is a beautiful bird, very good to the hens. He shares food and treats, calls them over when he finds a tasty morsel, dances for the girls, and promptly breaks up fights.

We've dealt with some misbehavior towards humans in recent months but it looks like we were able to correct it and Peter has been a nice boy lately. He is very entertaining to watch and we love him!

Just thought I'd share a couple pics of our guy :)

He sounds really cool. I'm new too chickens. Well, had some as a kid but didn't know much about them. Never new roosters would do the kind of things you and others have mentioned. So wish I could have a rooster. Glad yours got straightened out from the human aggression. He sounds too cool to be cruel.

Thanks all!

Those of you who know what Buff Orpington roosters are supposed to look like are probably wondering what happened to Peter's comb. Sadly it got frostbitten last winter and the pointy tips blackened and eventually fell off (the hens helped pick them off). Now he looks like he has a permanent buzz cut :)

I like his comb as it is - I wouldn't have noticed the tips were missing! I wish my roo, Kono, was as nice as Peter is. My youngest roo, Big Jake, is still nice, but he's really young - time will tell!
