If i have 2 imperfect melanistic animals, in this case ayam cemanis, will they produce better quality melanistic chicks?
I have 2 questions
So basically i have some pure ayam cemani birds but they aren't perfect with a black tongue, they have grey tongues, greenish black legs and the combs are a bit red. I also have ayam cemani/silkie cross chickens but also don't have a black tongue.
I am wondering if it is possible for them to have chicks with more melanism than they do and eventually have pitch black qualities like the tongue, legs, combs with selective breeding or will they always stay low level quality no matter what and need a perfect pure black one to ever have a chance at haveing show bird quality color?
I am also wondering if the silkie melanistic traits count toward the ayam cemani melanism because i know ayam cemanis need to have 2 copies of melanism and silkies carry melanism in them as well, i do alot of quail breeding, i know alot about different locus and how to keep the selective breeding going so i didn't know if melanism might work in a weird way like quail colors but i don't fully know how melanism works, definitely wanting to learn. So my second question is would it be possible to have a full melanistic bird using a silkie and ayam cemani together?
I have searched everywhere for an answer but have only found that the blood line can lose the melanism if not bred for it, can the blood line gain it as well?
TIA
