Memorial Day hatch along

First foray into the great outdoors! They figured out the “down” part of the ramp just fine, but couldn’t quite figure out how to get back up! I picked everyone up and put them in the coop, then Momma Goldie plopped down in the doorway to let the chicks rest for a few minutes. Then they were off an running to get a drink and some chow, now I’m betting they’re napping in the nestbox!

Sheesh, I had to save Little Red and one of the EEers tonight... Four of the chicks followed Momma up the ramp and into the coop, but two got left behind in the run. I could hear them crying from a hundred feet away! I ran out there and found them huddled under the ramp, hiding from the rest of the flockers who were still milling around, eating the chick starter and thinking about going to bed. Once I picked them up and put them on the doorframe, they ran right into the nest box. Better than the night before when I had to do that for all six!

Tomorrow is hatch day, and I lost power for over three hours today (just came back ten minutes ago). I’m suddenly getting a bad feeling. Not because of the power going out. That wasn’t an emergency situation. I moved the incubator, and some eggs did a lot of rolling. It just left me with a bad feeling.
