Where did you put the diatomaceous earth ? did you use pool grade or food grade? Your coup problem probably isn't that severe , chickens are pretty adaptable.

The DE was food grade. I have tried to post the pics of my coop twice. I have 4 pics. Even though it said it posted the 1st time. It didn't. The 2nd time only one pic showed. I will try again

Okay food grade that's good . if you tried to clean it out you're probably just fine no problem. some people mixed DE with dirt and their bird's dusting bin in there run in their run so that the birds can dust in it .as long as it's not like a pure one inch deep over the whole run, you're fine.

Thats good. Thank you. I was able to figure out howvto post all my pics. I havd tp post and reply separately on each pic but i just did it and it worked. I also stated the problems with it.

Okay,
Here is how I fl9r my coops. Never had a problem in my coops . And the floor stays dry.
1. Sprinkle food grade DE on the floor just deep enough so it forms layer thick enough that you can't see the texture of the flooring. Add a bit more in corners and where the walls meet the floor.
2. Do the same with a layer of Sweet PDZ Stall Freshener. Thick enough so you just cant see the DE. A bit more in corners and where walls meet the floor.
3. Now add 3-4 inches of Tractor Supply white bale of shavings.
All done.
The DE stays on the bottom scratching the exoskeleton of bugs so they die of dehydration. The PDZ helps keep down moisture band keep the coop sweet by combating ammonia. The chops are kiln drive. Give the birds plenty to scratch in.
Best
Karen

Yes they are Kiln dried Pine shavings .the yellow bale at Tractor Supply is not what you want. if you open one of the yellow bales it smells like turpentine. if you open one of those white bales it smells like fresh chopped wood that is what you want.
