Merrecks vaccine in bantams/older chicks

Do you use something besides shavings? I haven’t had chickens since college, and am still trying to decide on the best way do litter for compost. Odor control is a priority, as I have close neighbors. They are excitted about the chickens, and I don’t want them to change their minds.

I use dry leaves and hay during the winter season. During the growing season, I add grass clippings and some garden debris. Deep litter done right does not smell. When fall approaches, I clean out some of the bedding from the summer. That goes straight into the run. During the winter it builds up in the coop. Right now, it is about 12" deep under the perches. In the spring, I will take some of that out, move the cleaner/dryer DL from the front of the coop back under the perches, and continue. I have only had one issue with ammonia this season. An addition of more leaves, and some sweet PDZ took care of that.
