I do not believe you need to worry about a lifetime egg withdrawal for metronidazole.

Metronidazole is banned for use in all food animals, so there are some people that recommend a lifetime egg & meat withdrawal. FWIW, I use it and still eat the eggs, though I usually wait 14 days after the last treatment to eat them.

Because this drug class is so important in human medicine, it's illegal to use it in food animals. Non-food animals like dogs and cats, no problem. Any food species, not used.
It's about developing resistance to these drugs in food animals, which includes poultry.

There is an article somewhere in a thread that I started that explains why it's banned for use in food animals, and it's not because of drug resistance. Let me see if I can find that article.

So I oversimplified; drug resistance is only part of the story, very true. And pet fish aren't in our food chain either. Usually.

Recently my chickens have gotten canker and I was wondering if I could use Metronidazole 500mg that my mother's doctor prescribed to her last year (it expires this year in october).
However, is there a difference between giving a chicken Metronidazole for humans and Metronidazole for fish(fishzole)? I know that I'll have to cut it up into smaller pieces since the pills are quite large.

As of right now I'm putt less than a tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar in their water.

As you can see it's really small because it's barely starting out. I also have another hen that might have it as well. (Sorry its fuzzy its hard to get them to stay still and zoom in at the same time)

Do you happen to remember what dosage you used? Someone on here commented 91mgs for a 4 lb bird. But the link provided says 10-30 mgs twice daily.
