Meyer Hatchery 2 questions please

Here's a quick video I took out my window. Its not "white out" at the moment. It comes and goes. I'll try to get another when its really whipping around with heavy snow. Not to bad right now.
I wish it were snowing here! Right now it's just rain rain rain and everything is a muddy, soupy mess and my pastures are flooded. Ready for summer now! I love your coop!

that call doesn't count...since they did not answer.

Call again!

Now the question becomes do I wait patiently for the post office to call me, or do I call them relentlessly until they arrive? Lol! I mean from Seattle to where I am is only 90 minutes or so....but I'm guessing the truck will make several stops....ugh. I called once but no one answered....so now I'm sitting on my hands....

Well...you don't want to be calling them when they're calling you! If its not possible they have the wrong # on the package (work # instead of cell, for example) I would just wait.

I suspect that the boxes are trucked to a sort center and scanning there is done by an automated process. They have a series of conveyor belts that run through something like the grocery store scanners only bigger. Boxes are skipped by the mere fact that they are at a bad angle for the scanner. They don't get another shot at being scanned until they reach your local sort center, local PO, and finally the delivery driver if they aren't being held at the post office.

That makes a lot of sense. I still have the boxes from my last two shipments. I think the scan label is on top so they would have to be hand scanned maybe.

@debid I suspect you are correct. I just checked the tracking yet again

and it still says the same thing...label, Polk, OH,...yada yada yada... Im really trying not to be neurotic but its this dumb weather that has me so freaked out. And then I go and read all these posts about bad weather deliveries, and delays and all chicks DOA and/or dying off within days.....Its kind of like googling symptoms when your sick

something I know better not to do....but there I go reading all this scary stuff and freaking my self out further...Geesh... I need to get a grip..

@mommakatx2 Thank you. The coop isnt finished yet but Im getting real close. And keep us updated. I spent 4 glorious days in the PNW several years ago visiting my life long friend and it was low to mid 70's every day with bright sunshine it was beautiful. Such beautiful country. My friend was laughing at me because I had my eyes out the window all the time just looking at the scenery while we were driving.

Well my update is this.....finally got through to the post office and was told my chicks probably wouldn't be there until the morning!! I said no, the tracking shows them on the truck from Seattle at 0838...so then he says oh well once in a great while they come on the last truck---which comes in around 1615!! Arrrrgh I have to be to work at 1600!! I'm so frustrated....of course it would be MY chicks that don't come the morning like usual. Now I have to find someone to pick them up and it won't be me opening the box :( I know, silly...but it's the little things.

Well....I just read this on the USPS website in regards to winter storm Stella:

Massachusetts
Postal operations have been impacted by a major winter storm. Offices in ZIP Code ranges 014-023 will suspend operations between noon and 1 p.m. on March 14. With conditions worsening in the region, operations are expected to remain temporarily suspended through March 15. Please continue to check back for updates.

Unfortunately this is effective in my zip code and all around me so my chicks are most likely sitting in an unmanned post office somewhere. The most worrisome part is where is says "operations are expected to remain temporarily suspended THROUGH March 15th". Seriously! This is New England people....it snows here. We don't just shut down for two days for a little snow! If I have to wait until Thursday for delivery I know I will likely be dealing with some if not all sick or dying chicks. This is not how I envisioned my start to chicken keeping. Plus I have to work since I already took today and tomorrow off to take care of the chicks.

OMG I feel so bad for those poor babies!!! If I worked for the PO I could never ever go home and just leave a box of chicks there crying and cold!

Mine didn't come today, and my tracking info still says that they haven't arrived at the Polk facility. No emails from Meyer stating that they've had any delays...I know they say they'll come between Tuesday and Thursday, but I'm an impatient person, haha!

Ohhhhhhnooooooooo!!!!!!

I'm so sorry!!! Those poor babies!!! Hopefully someone has the wherewithal to at least put them in a warm area...even if it's an office or something. Surely the wouldn't just leave them in a warehouse. My goodness it doesn't seem like a positive outcome will happen, unfortunately :(

I'll be crossing fingers for you!!!!
