Meyer Hatchery 2 questions please

Mine says the same thing still too. I have another order coming from Cackle and I got the tracking information from them yesterday too. Their's is updated though and shows a delivery for tomorrow. Hoping with all the weather out east they make it West safe and sound!!

What kind of chicks did you order MerryMouse?
Hope your chicks arrive safely...

I ordered:
1 White Plymouth Rock
1 Swedish Flower Hen
1 Light Brahma
1 Gold Laced Wyandotte
1 Barnevelder
2 Partridge Cochin
2 Lavender Orpington
2 Buff Orpington
2 Black Australorp
2 Barred Rock
1 Meyers Meal Maker

All Hens I hope but I have arrangements for any possible roo already.

I was watching the daily availability change yesterday as they were filling orders and if they accurately update those lists my chances for the meal maker being an interesting bird is pretty good. They had Blue Ameraucana, Blue Copper Marans, Olive Eggers and Golden Buff. I really tried to get all of those except for the golden buff with my initial order but they were not available at the time. They must have had better than expected hatch of them and had extras...heres hoping

I really wanted a colorful egg basket but only brown layers were available at the time so we'll see.

What did you order?

They make the labels before they ever stack them and take them to the PO. From what I understand, they fill allll the orders, load them in the truck, and take them to the PO with them already having shipping labels on them, rather than going back and forth with a few boxes at a time. Since their hatch day was yesterday I think they'll drop them at the PO sometime today.
I could be totally wrong but I think they can only get a tracking number once they arrive at the post office. So I did receive the tracking number yesterday so I do believe they were at the post office yesterday, now, whether or not they got very far from that point is anyones guess since they havent updated the tracking number since then. The snow and wind is really crazy here now. The snow is blowing sideways with pretty much white out conditions. My neighbors hows is barely visiable through the sideways blowing snow

If they did it at the PO then the postal employee has to type in the addresses of each and every package, whereas if they do it at the hatchery then the info is just copied from the hatchery computer system.

We are having some terrible weather here too though not nearly as bad as where you are. I am a bit worried because I have chicks coming from Ideal (in Tx, so not too bad of a transit) but also some others coming from Hoovers in OH and I just checked Ohio weather this morning and its pretty cold and yucky.

Is that your areas "main" post office? For instance, there are four post offices within ten miles of me but the chicks go to the nearest "main" one (which still isn't that big) which is 11.5 miles from me. They all have weird hours : 8-noon, or noon - 4, except this one which is 8-1230, closed for lunch and then open again 230-430. I usually just send them to my work address so they go to an even bigger PO, though, and last time they did not show up there until noon and I don't think that's a normal arrival time because when my carrier picks up mail from that location she scans it at 9 am. So I guess what I'm saying is that I don't think chicks necessarily come at the normal time with the other mail for whatever reason.

ETA the day that my chicks came, the carrier brought the mail to my work address at 11am. I got a phone call that the chicks were in an hour later.
I'm not totally sure how it works. We live in a rather small town, well for Massachusetts that is, of only about 5000 residents so we only have one post office. I think around here mail gets taken to a big distribution center then sorted and brought to the small local post offices.

Hmm. Maybe they would deliver live animals at a different time to ensure their safety??? I kind of doubt it but I would be happy if they did. Sounds like they made an extra trip to deliver yours though, so maybe. Although, with the blizzard they are begging people to stay off the road but if my chicks arrive you betcha I'll be in my truck and heading to the post office which is only about 2ish miles away or so. I'm still hoping a get a call soon but feeling like it will be tomorrow. Hopefully not Thursday because then if any are still alive by that time I will have my hands full trying to nurse them back.

Thanks for your help

Our PO employees are in today. Even got a package and mail delivery a short time ago. So don't give up hope yet.

On a side note do you have a way to give them heat if you lose power?
Yes, I was worried about that so I had my DH pick up some gas for the generator. There'll be a plug in for my MHP and my computer and we can sit in the dark under blankets as long as my MPH is heated

Good chance we'll lose power too this is a crazy storm. My dogs are even hesitant to go out.

Oh I just checked their catalog and it says " We ship Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays depending on the combination of poultry ordered. Poultry are shipped for arrival at your local Post Office Tuesday through Saturday depending on hatch date. Whether you phone in your order or book it on-line, we will inform you of the arrival time frame. "

I got mine within 5 days of ordering, 24 hours after they hatched. I began with 6 birds, shipped right to my local post office! There were no extras, and all arrived at 5 AM, safe, happy (ish), and completely healthy! They should be there fairly soon! Good luck with them! :)
@merrittsfarm thanks! Where are you located and did you order from Meyers? Just curious because the 24 time frame is fast thats awesome!

Yes, you are correct, I think the hatchery probably labels the package but the tracking number is made by the post office so if I got a tracking number yesterday, which I did, that means the chicks arrived at the post office yesterday.

Meyers is in OH too. I ordered from them because they were the closest big hatchery to me, I think. Are yours supposed to be arriving this week too? I think the storm was in OH but it didn't really build up steam until it was over the ocean and collecting all that moisture. So maybe you'll be ok hopefully. The snow is still blowing from the east to the west so we are not even half way done with it yet so we'll see.

I know what you mean about "small towns". Our "village" has a population of 133! The POs that are nearby are for the other villages and towns (whatever they want to call themselves) in the area. Though we have a "city" of 30,000 about 20 miles away which is where I work and where I have the chicks sent to when I am smart. Last time I did something wrong so half my chicks went to the PO for my work and the other half went to that "main" PO for the towns in my area about 20 miles away. Argh. I'm not really sure how that PO works anyway, it seems they only get the special handling or Saturday delivery stuff for my address and the rest goes to the one in the "city". I think the reason there are so many POs out this way is because it is very rural and agricultural here (the poultry is the main industry with seafood perhaps being second) so its all very spread out and maybe it makes it easier for the elderly out in the country or something. That's the only reason I can think of!
