Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Congrats! How did last night go? Mine have totally taken a few steps back after the thunder storm the other night. They didn't even want to play outside the next day, they just spent the day in their play pen..

Sorry it took me a couple days to Respond. It went great! I went out the next morning at 6:30am to check on them and they were all already down being noisy and playing in the shavings. My adult chickens who are in the coop right next to the chicks were all giving me the stink eye as if to say "Really mom? Now we have to wake up to THIS every morning?"

Tonight for the third night in a row I went out in the evening and they were all lined up just like in the picture. They don't seem to have any problems sleeping out there! They've been staying on the roosts all night long, and never seem to mind it. I think it helps that it has been 90 degrees here everyday for the past 3 days. Then they can sleep on the roosts and don't have to pile up on the floor.

Hopefully your chicks start facing their fears of the coop soon too. Do you keep them in their coop all day? That seemed to help a lot with my girls.

Can I borrow your chicks to teach mine a thing or two?! The coop they have now my father in law gave us its pretty much a rabbit huch but without the legs. Its been raining and storming all week so I'm gonna give it another go when hubby builds them a nicer coop this week. Their main coop is a barn/shed that we are on a waiting list for and should be here end of aug first week of sep. They are outside from about 12ish till 845 9ish 4 days a week while I'm off work(unless I go out or it's too hot to leave one of the dogs out there to babysit). The other 3 days I work so they are outside from 5 till 845 9 but they don't use the coop till it gets dark.

I've come up with plan b if they still don't like the coop tho! My husband is a manager at Walmart and they get those huge watermelon boxes, he said I could get one and I figure that would be big enough to keep their spoiled butts in till their little castle comes. But I think if we can get a few nights without storms they will be ok with staying on their own. My parrot started screaming for them tonight right before they were getting ready to settle in for the night so that killed that. As if my job wasn't hard enough I got someone working against me now

I'm glad our experience helped someone! I wish I had done that. If we lose some from this assortment order I'm not going to get replacements. I'm done with babies for this year!

I am just getting the assortment. I cancelled the silkies.

It def did! My hubby has a sultan on every order cause they were getting limited and he didn't want what calls " the polish disaster ". But now you know for future orders! I'm def gonna keep it in mind for next year

It sounds like the storms really aren't helping you in your case. Maybe once they let up you will have more luck. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! How old are your chicks now? Mine just turned 7 weeks yesterday.

11 weeks yesterday.. Thank you, at this point I'll take any luck I can get!

Lynn is that seriously Elvis?! He got soooo big! How old is he now?
She is 8 weeks now. She seems to have trouble seeing with all those feathers on top of her head. I think she is a she so far, no crowing yet. ( I know Elvis is a boys name, but my daughter thinks that names should not be associated with certain genders, she's 19 and Elvis is hers)

She also named Fred (who I call Freida) Well, they're chickens, I don't think they care.

Yes, she's our only cochin. Our polish will be the first breed we'll have more than one of. I took some pics the other day of everyone and they are now missing from my camera. Strange. I'll have to go take some more.
Our flock consists of:

19 weeks old
BR, BO, BA, EE - still no eggs or behavior like they are near

16 weeks old
Blue Cochin

14 weeks old
Plymouth Rock, Belgian D'Uccle

5 weeks old
SL Polish, Splash Polish

3 weeks old
WCB Polish

2 weeks old
Splash Silkie
Wow, so many different breeds and ages and you have more coming? You must have a nice setup, I wish we had a bigger place, if we did, I'd get more!

We don't have anything special. We have the main coop with an enclosed run, then that sits in a chain link area that they have free run of during the day. Each evening they are let out to free range the yard. The 2 & 3 weeks olds are in the brooder box in my daughter's room. the new chicks will join them there (in a penned off area for awhile). The 5 weeks old are in a chicken tractor in the main chain link area so they can see the older birds but not be bullied. After the big girls get settled on their roosts for the night I put the little ones on the floor and they huddle up in a corner. Only my 19 week old girls roost right now. The 15 weeks olds still huddle in a corner together. I think it's because they used to have a silkie in their group and the cochin has vision problems. I've only seen her on the roost once in the middle of the day. I also think the oldest girls might bully them down when they try. I'm going to try a ladder roost soon so the big girls won't feel threatened and the other girls will have a lower roost.

We are only allowed 8 chickens here so I still need to sell a couple. The 5 assorted rares will probably all get sold since I didn't really want them in the first place but need to make the money back from the polish order.
We gave our BO to a friend yesterday. She's the one we were watching the Speckled Sussex for (and an EE). She also bought one polish so we are 4 chickens shorter now.

I'm worried about our little polish chick. She is breathing really heavy today. She's not panting but you can see her whole body move as she breathes. Also, she is so much smaller than her hatch mates. I don't think she's a roo since she has a large crest, but I'm wondering now if maybe they mixed a bantam in our assorted order on accident. She is about half the size of the other 2. I hope it's just that she's a bantam instead of a failure to thrive.

Snow, my WL did it again, this one was 1.5 ounces and laid in another nest box...then

....Maddie the EE laid her 2nd one on the floor of the coop...then....

....later close to midday, A BROWN EGG!!!!! 1.2 ounces...This one was int eh nest box, whoever it was got it right the first time, now to figure out who laid this little egg.

This is so much fun! Three eggs today!!!!!
