Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Has anyone ordered 10 chicks from Meyer Hatchery in May before? I have read quite a few stories of people's chicks dying from cold. I ordered from Meyer Hatchery because it is only 4 hours away from me, and I ordered a May shipment because it's usually pretty nice weather in May. I'm just worried about them... I know it has nothing to do with Meyer, it's the PO. That's exactly why I ordered from the closest Hatchery to me as possible, so they have less time being in warehouses and trucks. I'm not sure if Meyer will ship any extra's. Will my chicks be okay?

P.S. I am a huge worry wort. I worry about anything and everything to do with animals

I keep telling myself they will be fine and not to worry, but I still can't stop worrying about my babies...

I can't imagine you would have a problem in May and they will make it there in one day! I think you're golden

I'm such a worry wart that I've already started checking the weather for 3 weeks from now! Even knowing there could be a freak snowstorm mid March i feel better looking and seeing they are predicting temps in the 50's. Helps me sleep!!
If Meyer was only 4 hours I would probably take a road trip and get them in Feb/March but they are 7 hours from me. A bit to far.

I would take a road trip there, but i'm only 14 and can't drive. My parents don't like to drive long distances either. My only option was to order them online. So I did my research and found the closest hatchery to Michigan, then I researched all about Meyer on BYC. The facility and the people who work there seem really nice, so that helps me sleep better at night. The only thing that worry's me is the postal carriers. I have no idea how they handle boxes with live animals. I'm also glad that it's close enough where they will be here the day after they are shipped. Crossing my fingers that March will have nice weather so your chicks arrive safely!

I'm working on my chick identification skills with my meyer catalog out! Let me know if I'm right! It's a fun game to play and you have a few of the ones I'm getting...

Top to bottom

Top 2 RIR's
SLW, EE?
EE?, Colombian Wyandotte or Blue Cochin
BR or Dom
GLP, Colombian Wyandotte or Blue Cochin
Australorp, BO
BR's or Dom
very bottom is white leghorn

Your GLW, Meal Maker, and either an EE or brown leghorn, were the ones you were missing or doa right? Those BR's and Dominiques are hard to tell apart!

It looks like from the feathering coming in that those are 2 easter eggers #4 and #5 and I am missing the light brown leghorn.

#6 pic is the Colombian Wyandotte and #9 is the Blue Cochin, they did look much more alike early on, but their feathering now is really showing the difference, plus the blue cochin has her fluffy feathered legs now, so cute!

#10 is for sure the dominique and 2 of the other black ones are the BR's and I believe the third black one is another BR (my Mealmaker) and I am missing the black australop. Their feathers are coming in black and white striped, not solid black like the australop's does. Still could be wrong, next week should tell.

So good job, great identification skills! You were right with pretty much all your guesses.

I ordered my replacements for the April 29th hatch: Black Australorp, Golden Laced Polish, Light Brown Leghorn, Welsummer, Golden Buff, Blue Andalusian and a Salmon Faverolle. They did not have a Golden Laced Wyandotte available, so I substituted for another one. I added a few more to the replacement order, Meyers is giving me my 4 replacements free and I added the 3 more. so 7 chicks.

Oh, I don't think you would need to drive there even if you could! Sorry, didn't want you to get even more worried or feeling guilty. I seriously think you will be fine. I think It's best to order between April and June and Sept to beginning of Nov. Don't fret!

I know what you meant

I honestly considered asking my parents to drive me there before I ordered them. Hopefully our unreliable Michigan weather doesn't decide to make it cold in May... You never know what the weather will be here. A few years ago it was still snowing in May. That hasn't happened in about 10 years though.
