Here are the Meyers girls at one week

I am still sticking with my first guess:

3 GSL
RIR
SLW

Unfortunately we lost the little BO on Saturday.

Hey all. Sorry for the losses you guys have had and congrats on the new arrivals and eggs!
We got a polish and salmon faverolle in our last shipment. Both survived, luckily. It was kinda sketchy with the polish on day one but we kept vitamins and electrolytes in the water from minute 1 and had canned cat food available if they needed it.

I just read that Meyers states Salmon Favrrolles are fragile. I hope not, cause I ordered one for August. I rcd 16wk old pullets and 4wk olds from someone local. So will be my first time with day old chicks.
We had a Salmon Faverolle in our last order that hatched on April 29th. She was doing great at 8 weeks old and was even one of the top chicks in the little group of six. She also was good at avoiding the older hens. If it had not been for the stupid dog, I think she would have done well and lasted awhile. I ordered another one for the July 29th hatch.
Aw, sorry. I thought another one had made it. Is the 9 week old like one of the big girls now? What breed (and name) is that one?

They look great and all wonderful news! Do you have a scale to put Big Mama on? If you could check her wt. over a few days you could put your mind at ease that she is eating!

Nancy - Her name is Daisy and she is a White Rock. She knows her limits with the big girls and sneaks in here and there and avoids them if needed. She is almost as big as them now and she will be bigger according to her breed, so I have a feeling that she won't be low in the pecking order for much longer.

I feel sorry for her. When I let them out in the garden she ran around awhile and just went back in the run. I think she's still looking for her other sisters. At first after the attack the big ones took her right in, but once they started feeling better that stopped quick. She still is up at the top roost, but there's plenty of room for her to move away from them up there.

I wish I did have a good scale to weigh Big Mama. I'd have to hold her to weigh her and my weight always is up or down 3-4 lbs, so that wouldn't work. Plus she is still so feisty and I can't keep her in one place, she really fights back and still has all her strength, which is another good sign. I know with both of them, we'll know in the next week for sure whether they're going to make it or not. Raising chicks is soooo much easier then dealing with hurt chickens!

How are your ladies now? No eggs yet?

Oh, I can't remember if I told you guys this or not, my untouchable EE, Olivia is now squatting! I wasn't quick enough to pet her, but at least she is doing it! It's nice to have her trusting me now. It bugs my husband that she is so scared of him.

Oh and I am getting 2- EE's in the next order! It is so much fun trying to see what colors they will turn out to be.

Thank you! I am so sorry about the little BO. Can't wait to see how your chicks turn out over the weeks and see if your guess are right.

Have you posted pics of your polish and salmon faverolle? I'd love to see them now, how old are they?

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, EVERYONE!!!!!

Quote: I will have to try and get some updated pics. They are such touch-me-nots! I was working full time this time around when our order came in and I didn't get a chance to hold them as much as I would have liked to so they could be easily caught. They are 12 weeks. Everyone except the silver laced cochin is fully feathered. That little monster is still getting her feathers on her back and neck. Our faverolle is also one of the top chicks, constantly challenging the others.

I have a question for those who have order meat birds from Meyers. Do they charge a separate price for shipping if you order chickens for eggs and boilers? Or do they ship together and it's the same price?

Has anyone ordered turkeys? If so, which ones were the best? They have so many!

My husband is interested in getting chicks for meat too. We've never done this before so this should be interesting.

Thanks, Lynn

Our meat and egg chicks were in the same shipment but in separate boxes. it is cheaper to have everything shipped together. Meyers will delay shipment until they have all the chicks you want available at the same time.

Daisy our Salmon Faverolle.

Mo our Golden Laced Polish

Lulu the Blue Cochin

Jezebel the Silver Laced Cochin in the center. She is still getting in her feathers.

One of the Buff ducks from Meyers. Don't ask me which one cause all 3 look identical!

To The Howards - how lovely. I think I have become a big Cochin fan

Thanks! Had not had a cochin before, had always thought about them though. Then one day I saw them in person at a local flock swap and the feed store owners cochins were running around. Their feet were so feathery that they looked like they were skating when they walked and I knew then I HAVE to have one. Luckily Lulu is so stinkin fluffy, she skates!

Lynn - I hear you on the scale. I would think if you see her trying to get food all day she must be getting something.
That will be exciting getting 2 EE's! You just never know what you will get :) No eggs here and I don't think for a few more weeks. The RIR's wattles and comb are getting a bit bigger, my BR's is a bit bigger but the BA's are still pale and small. Those are the ones I think will lay first. They're about 16 1/2 weeks so maybe by 20 or so? Hopefully beginning of August but I guess you never know! I'm going away for the first few days in August but my husband will be home... I KNOW that's when they'll decide to lay!!!!
Maybe you'll have a green egg soon from Olivia?

The Howards - Love the pics!! Mo is so cute... I have to get me one of those one day! I have a Moe also - my White Cochin. My 16 y/o son named him that. I don't know why and he doesn't either. I call her Mosey though. A little more feminine. I would love a blue cochin - blue anything! ahhh, next time.
