Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

I feel your pain....youngest son went out around noon to check on his chickens and found his favorite little Silkie pullet dead.  He thinks one of the bigger/older hens that caused her demise.

Oh I'm so sorry, especially for your son having to find her. I don't keep bantams just for the fact that I'd be afraid of them getting picked on by my big girls :(

Oh no! We lost a favorite silkie too. Due to a hail storm though. It crushed all of us. :(
We have a D'Uccle as our only bantam and her best friend is a cochin. She doesn't get picked on at all. Not because of her friend, but they all get along.

Our chickens this spring will be all bantams I think. My daughter really likes them. Of course that's a long way away, who knows what we'll end up with by then. Of course, walking into a farm store may change all of our plans because it's hard to say no to chicks right in front of you. ;)

Oh wow, what a way to go. Hail is scary!

I'd love to get some bantam chicks too. I am scared for next year when I have to buy feed in March and all those cute babies are there. Too tempting!

I finally got my catalog today!!!

My husband and I were looking through it and I think we figured out that the chicken we were thinking was a Partridge Plymouth Rock is actually my Welsummer. The one we thought was my Welsummer is another light brown leghorn. What do you guys think?

Here is my for sure Light Brown Leghorn - Izzie

Here is my thought to be Welsummer. She has white earlobes, which made no sense. I believe she is another Light Brown Leghorn. She matches Izzie completely except for the comb being smaller. She was named Mini because she was the smallest chick, so she may be a slower growing leghorn?

Here is Rocky- Who I thought was a Partridge Plymouth Rock, but now I think she is my Welsummer? She does not have white earlobes and her coloring matches the Welsummer in the catalog.

So what do you guys think? Maybe I am still wrong about all this!

No, Rocky is a Partridge Plymouth Rock. Wellies shouldn't have penciling in their feathers. They will look almost exactly like the Light Brown Leghorns in feather pattern, but be a little heftier and without the white earlobes. I'm thinking, though, that as a hatchery bird, the earlobes aren't a guarantee, so maybe she's just a throwback? You may just have to wait on Mini to see what her egg color is.

ETA: It just occurred to me that you can determine whether Rocky is a Welly or a Rock by how her chick down looked, too. Welsummers are chipmunk striped as chicks. Partridge Rocks are kind of brownish overall.

Mine are darker, too, but that doesn't change the fact that Welsummers don't have lacing on their chests.

Here is the youngest picture of Lynn's Rocky I could find. They're easy to tell apart as chicks, so I thought this would make the best demonstration of why I think she's a Rock still.

Trying to find birds around the same age, here is a young Welsummer:

Here is one of my Partridge Rocks at about the same age:

Thanks everyone. Rocky was one of the rare breeds and I did assume she was a Partridge Rock because of her chick coloring and she does have the partridge stenciling too, which Welsummers don't have. She is light in coloring though and her neck is just as golden in color as the Leghorn and the Wellsummer. I guess it is just the fact that these are hatchery birds, so I can't expect the coloring to be exact.

It really doesn't matter what she is, she may be a mixture too, which I guess Mini is as well since she has the white earlobes. So confused. So I'm back to just waiting and seeing what kind of egg Rocky lays and Mini too. Rocky is getting very friendly and social, so no matter what she is she's a great chicken to have.

I googled images of Partridge Rock Chickens and I found a few with golden necks like Rocky, so I guess it is still safe to call her a Partridge Rock. Here is the googled image and below that the one of Rocky for comparison.
