Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

My meal maker is now 10 weeks old. Is she a meyer's RIR or NHR? By now I'm learning what the heritage breeds should look like, but I'm not sure what the hatchery stock of either would look like. Or more like how they would differ. What do you think? She really is darkening which makes me lean toward RIR.
She looks a lot like my Golden Buff, Ginger when she was a little younger.
She looks too pale for a Rhodie. They usually start out as a darker red. Lift up her feathers. If her down is red like the rest of her feathers, she is a New Hampshire. If her down is white, she's a red sexlink (Meyer calls them Golden Buffs).

Thank you so much. Got to love having experienced people around. Thinking sexlink because I'm pretty positive her down is whitish. It really has been fun to watch her grow and keep guessing. So much fun, I'm definitely getting another one next year!!

Hello Everyone! I hope that all of you had a nice Thanksgiving. We enjoyed ourselves and ate way too much again.

I'm a little crazy this week. My younger son is getting married on Saturday and we're hosting the reception here. So it"s gonna be super crazy for me to get everything ready for that.

I took a few chicken pictures today with my new phone and I thought I'd share. It was nice to go and have some "chicken time" with them. A great stress reliever for sure! The little ones will be 18 weeks tomorrow and no eggs yet, but a few are more social and a few have the bigger combs and wattles that are turning red, so I hope soon!

Sorry to bombard all of you with so many pictures. It's been quiet on this thread lately so I thought that some of you might enjoy these. I'd love to see more pictures too of all of your chickens!

I had to share one more picture. I actually got an egg from one of my new chicks that are 17 weeks and 6 days old. I think it was my Partridge Rock, Rocky. The egg looks a lot like Daisy's eggs the White Rock, but she already laid today. This egg was on the floor of the coop and Rocky was in the coop a lot today, I thought she was just dust bathing. When I checked the coop tonight while locking them up for the night there were a lot of big nests created by her on the floor of the coop.

I've been expecting to find white eggs from Izzie the Light Brown Leghorn since she looks ready, Rocky's combs and wattles do not look that big or that red. It could still be someone else's, but I think it is hers. I guess we'll see in a few days! So excited that I have a new layer!!!! Hopefully the others will join in.

It was a very filthy egg and needed a lot of scrubbing, so I'll be checking the coop more now and I hope she starts to use the nest boxes. Here it is after it's bath.

It has been quiet here lately, hasn't it? I've been super busy with classes and everything, and then the holiday came around and made things worse. Ugh! But I had my camera out today, so I do have a few pictures I can share of my Meyer girls.

Here are my older Meyer ladies, about a year and a half old. They all are either in mid-molt or just finishing a molt, poor gals! The two in the background are my Speckled Sussex. Then my Partridge Rocks are at the middle, and to the right is my beloved Splash Marans, Frou-Frou:

Fancy the Partridge Rock :love

I didn't get all of my younger Meyer girls, but I do have pictures of Rangi and Roha today, about 6 1/2 months old.

Rangi, my lovely Ancona pullet:

Roha the Exchequer Leghorn--such a ham for attention!:

All of my Meyer pullets are laying except my Silver Lakenvelder. Looks like she's going to hold out until springtime, too, because her comb shrank like the older girls that have quit laying for the season. Oh, well.

I'm still waiting eagerly to add a Dorking to my Meyer order for next spring. I don't know if I mentioned it here, but thus far I have a Welsummer and two Black Copper Marans reserved for mid-May. Can't wait to meet my new babies! :D

Great pics! Chickens look so good in a Fall background. Frou Frou has the coolest coloring.
Love the Exchequer Leghorn, I tried for one of those in my last order, but they were out. I need some speckled chickens next time too the Sussex and the Ancona add another type of coloring to the flock don't they?

I guess compared to your older hens, my Partridge Rock does have the comb and wattles of a layer. I was expecting them to grow a little more, but your full grown hens have small ones too. Live and learn!

Oh and that is great that you're getting Black Copper Marans and a Welsummer in May, can't wait to see those pics too! I'll just live through everyone's postings of new chicks next year since I won't be getting more.

My motto is you can never post too many chicken pics!!

Love yours!!!!!! And congrats on the new layer… you could be getting a lot more soon!!
Wow, a wedding in your yard. That must be a ton of work! Congrats to you and I'm sure it will be a splendid day! My anniversary was last week - I love weddings near Christmas.
Wishing you all the best for a wonderful day Saturday!!

Pip- Your girls are lovely. And I agree, Frou-Frou has the best coloring! Rangi is lovely too

I love Frou Frou. She has made me think about getting a Splash Maran. Can you post a pic of her egg? Maybe next to another for comparison?
I was just outside taking pics today. You must've read my mind! :) My photo bombardment is below. ;)

It was gorgeous here today so I took the opportunity to sit with the girls for a little while then I wrapped their small enclosed pen that surrounds their coop (their never shut up in it unless we are out of town) in plastic to keep the coming snow out so they have one spot that's dry. I also put a lamp in there to give them a warmer spot since it is supposed to be -11 this Thursday night! BRR! I don't want to put a lamp inside the coop (it's too crowded now) but I think I'll shine the outside lamp on the side of the coop to hopefully give it a little radiant heat. I think the girls will be fine all snuggled up, I feel bad for the poor bunny that's left on her own on the floor. Maybe I'll build her a little shelf and ramp up by the roosts so she can be up with the chickens. lol ;)

Mona - Partridge Rock. She wouldn't let me get close to her at all today.

Amber - EE. I don't think she'll ever grow feathers on her shoulder area. I looked at it the other day and there are no new feathers growing. I think it's scarred. I'm not surprised since it was all the way down to muscle there.

And of course she had to come check out if I had any treats. She was fascinated with my camera.

Pippi - Gold Laced Polish (I don't think we're keeping her). She's the youngest of the flock and the one we thought for sure was going to die a few weeks ago.

And of course I can't go anywhere without my dogs following. Here's the pug (1 year old in 2 days), Basil.

Marble - BR and Sky - BA

Loda - Buff Laced Polish (not ours but she lives with us for now)

Boomerang - Silver Laced Polish (we have another SLP that lives with us too but I don't have a pic of her from today)

Sterling - Blue Cochin (or Miss Fluffy Butt as I call her or Oprah as my husband calls her)

Sterling's best friend, Flower - Mille Fleur D'Uccle

Everyone's girls are so beautiful!! :love I have to say, seeing all of your girls running around outside in the photos makes me jealous. I haven't been able to let my girls out in months. We have had such a hard time with hawks. Just the other day I was going to let them out so the young girls could experience their first snow, but I looked out the window and there was the hawk in the neighbors tree. That thing just doesn't let up.

We'll be moving in January, and as soon as the snow melts, we are going to build the coop and put up privacy fence around the whole yard. So they'll be able to free range again. Until Spring the girls will be kept in the garage at the new house. We'll see how that goes. ;)

My mean red hen is still mean after picking her up and holding her upside down so the other day I tried something new. She squatted for me and I gave her a really rough back rub and she stayed away from me a few days. Then today I was giving them wet crumbles and she walked right up and gave me the hardest peck and looked up at me and then ran off. I swear it's like a little game.
Soup… that's her new name

Thank you! Guess I will be staying busy with cleaning for the reception at our house. (The actual wedding will be at a church) We plan on having everything inside and if the weather is nice, maybe some people can linger out to the patio. I think it may rain though, so will be all set up inside. Thanks for the best wishes!

Soup, love that name! Daisy my White Rock is starting to peck me too along with Pepper the BR. I keep pushing them away but they come back and peck me again. I think it is a game to them. In the winter it is not so bad, but once the clothes get thinner and if I wear shorts, we'll have a problem.

Great pics, those Polish look great! How old are they? Amber looks good too, you said she is back to laying eggs didn't you? Maybe after a molt those feathers will come in? I feel sorry for your bunny too, you should get another to keep him/her warm, then you can have lots of bunnies heating up the coop.

Thank you! We have the hawks around here too, so far the girls do well with hiding when one is flying over and I have a lot of safe areas for them to get under cover. I guess I fear stray dogs more in my neighborhood since they just go on a rampage.

I hope that your new place works out. I know bird netting at Lowes here is around $14.00 for a huge roll of 100 feet by 7 feet. Best deal that I found.
