Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Hm, no beardy face... It almost has to be a different breed, not an Orpington. I can't imagine hidden genetics throwing that many feathers on the feet of a bird whose parents (we can assume) are clean-legged. Guess we'll have to wait and find out as it grows. :)

So I have to ask...

Has anyone added a Meyer's Meal Maker to their order??

If so, what breed did you get?

I added one to my order just to get a surprise, but I'm just curious what others have ended up with. I'm already planning on sharing eggs with my two nearest neighbors (a married couple with 4 sons on one side of me and an elderly widowed man on the other) and my in-laws. So I'll be living up to my Meal Maker bargain!

Here are pics of my 1 week old Blue Ameracauna and Silver Laced Wyandotte, as well as my one day old Blue Orpington, White Crested Blue Polish, Silver Laced Polish and Silver Spangled Hamburg.

The Blue Orp has fuzzy feet, but other than that I think they are all pretty much true to form.

Coming home with me in 2 weeks will be a Blue Splash Maran, a Gold Laced Wyandotte, and a Columbian Wyandotte. (If I'd known while I was there today that they had a Spitzhauben available, she'd have been in my front seat riding home with me, too!)
adorable chicks! Congrats!

I received an extra Plymouth Barred Rock for my meal maker. I have 2 college aged kids and all their friends to share eggs with and also one recently married son to share with too. I am also getting another meal maker in my next order April 29th hatch date. I won't be disappointed if I get another barred rock for the next one, they are some of my sweetest chickens. I'll have plenty of eggs to share this year, I am sure.

I had a casualty last night. The Partridge Rock - Maximus - died. She seemed to eat and drink well during the day but by night time she would peep extremely loud as if in distress
and sort of wander around. But if I put my hand in there with food she would eat. I gave her Nutri drench and vitamins because I had been reading about other
people's experiences with loud chicks and quite often they died. I guess she just had some sort of internal issues that she couldn't overcome. She was also very tiny; my CW and her were the same size but the CW eats day and night. So it was sad to find her but not totally unexpected.
All the others seem to be thriving and their personalties are coming out.

Crazy Chick- the chicks are adorable. What a great assortment. I don't know how people can take individual pics like that... I tried yesterday and I got a few but I was afraid some were going to run away and I wouldn't be able to catch them. The EE's were the worst!

Sorry about the Partridge Rock.

Probably something wrong with her to start with and it was just a matter of time.

I was wondering the same thing about CrazyChicks pics, I had to have someone hold each of mine to take pics.

2 Buff Brahma Stella and Carmella

2 RR's

2 BA's Chug and Mamie

White Cochin - Moe

CW - Sweet Pea

8 days old. This was my attempt at a photo session. After Sweet Pea the EE's went nuts and i didn't want to torture them anymore!! I'll try again later

Meyer has indeed confirmed it is not an Orpington. They have refunded my $20. Dang, they have no Blue Orpingtons available now either. Their consensus is that the chick is a cochin. Hopefully it is a blue cochin. They were very nice about it though.

Is that a new Avatar? Very cute pic!!
Yes it is and thank you!

I have to brag.. we went out to the coop and called the chicks out for treats this am, usually they all fly out the chicken door, but nobody was coming out...of course we got very worried...and then I was hearing all this chirping....we went in the coop to see and they all were up on the top roost together roosting, but none of them could figure out how to get down. I had to help a few down and the ones that do not like to be touched used that fear as inspiration to fly down.

So proud! There like real chickens now!
