Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Yea they have a few breeds I want but I don't want 25 of them (well I do but I'm sure hubby would kill me). Plus don't they have like a min of 5 per breed?

Haha! I think all of us would love to be able to get that many. I'm not sure if they have the minimum of 5 per breed. I think that's what it was.

I also lost Plymouth Rock Partridges from Meyer's this year. Two on my first order within 24 hours of delivery (one DOA); same in the replacement order. With symptoms similar to above. All other chicks (CX, RIR, Barred) were fine and lost none of the others which are now 5 weeks old.
I've had trouble with losing chicks or missing chicks in both my orders so far with Meyers. I really hope my next order for the end of July hatch has everything I ordered and they survive.

I wish I had my camera with me this morning. When I went out into the coop to check on the chicks, I leaned down to pick some shavings out of their food. Then Sunni decided to jump on my back. Then of course everyone else thought it was a good idea too. I ended up having 5 chicks on my back all at the same time. The other 4 were trying to find a place to squeeze in too. All I could think was "Oh, I really hope none of you have poopy feet."

Silly birdies.
That sounds like it would have been a really funny picture, but I imagine you would have needed a 2nd person to take the pic for you with 5 chicks on your back. Too cute!

Mine used to jump on me but I guess they outgrew it! I loved when they did that. So cute

I'm glad Oreo ate and stood. Both good signs! Hopefully Big Mama is actually getting some food in her and you just don't see it. Are you still hand feeding her too?
Wow... new chicks will be here in no time. I bet it will be easier in the summer months to get them outside faster and acclimated to the older girls.

Of course a rare egg assortment would be good too!!!
Yeah, I am still hand feeding her, but I don't think I get a whole lot in her. We were thinking she must be getting something in her for her to not be too light or too thin yet. Not quite sure what's going on with her.

Yeah, since it will still be summer I thought it would be a good time and I wasn't going to order unless they had the breeds I wanted and I could get them soon and they did and I could, so more chicks! I wish I was done with chicks, but I guess I couldn't predict losing so many birds. I do have everything I need to brood them already, so why not?. They are a lot of fun to have and I enjoy them, but they kind of mess up family travel until they're old enough to be left alone for awhile.

Plus I'll get a couple white egg layers, a creamy egg layer and a green egg layer. We loved the little BA we had so I had to order another one of those and the WL, Snow was a awesome bird too.

I probably will add that rare one in there soon too.

I hope I will get a Welsummer, I really liked the little one I got, Wilma.

Glad to hear good news. I hope it keeps coming. Glad you are getting some chicks too. Definitely go for the rare assortment. We got 5 and liked the assortment we got. Unfortunately we are losing our little polish from that batch. We went to check on them and show them to my mom around 3 pm and she was running all over the place and wouldn't leave us alone as usual. My mom said she had so much personality and was so cute. Then my daughter went in there around 7:30 and she was on her death bed, gasping for air laying down and unable to control her head. I don't get how they can go from fine to dead in a matter of hours with no symptoms before hand. I already did 5 days of Corid so I don't think it's cocci. And they don't get the fluffed feather look at all, and their poop looks fine.
So lost as to what's going on with them. It's beyond "some chicks just don't make it". We have lost more than 50% of the chicks we ordered from Meyer. That's not a normal % to expect losses from. Before we started with the polish we had never lost a chick to natural causes. We have changed food, shavings, etc. They have fresh water. We've done vitamins & ACV and plain water. We don't let the shavings get wet. I've read every thread I can find on it and do what it says. Nothing has helped. :(

I don't ever want to do day old chicks again. What's funny is my husband used to repeatedly ask when we'd be done with chicks. Now that I'm done he's looking at the side yard talking about how we can build a brooder out there.

On a separate note, I think our BR is about to lay. We checked her vent today and it's huge. I'm hoping tomorrow we'll have an egg waiting for us. :)

I'm sorry about your polish. I wonder if its a problem with Meyers lines or just the breed. Hope you get an egg today!

So many Polish deaths... I was wondering if people let Meyer know in case they can look at the problem. Or maybe they're just delicate? That is very odd to seem completely healthy one minute and dead the next. So sorry you lost her. Do you have another hatchery closer to you that has them or a breeder maybe?

Keep us posted about your BR!! Hope to see an egg photo from you soon

Are your older ones 20 weeks now?

Do you vaccinate your chicks from Meyers? Use medicated feed. I did both with both of my orders.

I wish I could help you with what could be wrong, but I am so new at this.

We've had 2 polish so far, but lost the 1st one in the 1st shipment and then the 2nd one of course with the dog attack. I actually thought little Elvis might make it since she she looked okay after the attack, but then she died over night. They do say they are not hardy, so I guess the stress that maybe another chicken could have handle could not be handle by a polish.

They are so much fun to have and I really want one, but I'm going to wait a year or two before I attempt getting polish again.

That's be great if your BR lays an egg soon! Hope she does!

I think they are delicate, I think they put something like "not hardy" on the order page for them.
