Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Sunni randomly started doing the egg song on the roost this evening. It was the cutest thing! Daffodil tried to do it too, but she was very shy about it. Not Sunni. She was pretty noisy.

kbh82310: I'm doing great today. How about you?

poohb10454: what are you getting in your order this week?

lol yeah. 15 plus a few extra :)

6 EE, 2 barred rock, 2 Jersey giant, 2 speckled Sussex, 1 light brahma, 5 buff Orpington and a meal maker

I can't wait to see your EEs! I bet your gonna get a nice mix. Black or white giants? My husband wants a white one. I have 2 EEs and 1 BO on my 9/30 order, I'm trying really hard not to add a 3rd EE.. Those things are addicting!! I hope your family LOVES eggs  cause your gonna be getting a few!

Doing good. Is Sunni's eating improving? How is her comb looking? My silkies do the same thing lol if one does something the other 3 try their hardest to do the same thing.

Well the silkies are in the barn tonight, their first night out of the house. I've been checking on them every 5 mins it seems like. And my husband said he will start working on the barn wed and I should be able to move everyone in Thursday if I want. Tuesday when I get off work we are gonna go get the building materials for it & the pool for the ducks.

My 6 week old chicks got the boot today as well outside to the barn from our nice cozy warm shop til they are big enough to integrate with the rest of the flock. It's been getting pretty cold here at nights now but they will do fine. Can't believe they are already 6 weeks old. Will have to take picks this week, my lil polish girl is adorable

What did you get again? I can't wait till everyone is in the main coop together cause honestly cleaning 3 brooders/ pens is getting really old! I have 9 (10 if we are counting husbands which i think do count!) other animals to care for so I have enough work to do

No her eating hasn't improved at all. She still tries really hard to eat, but her tongue is so deformed and swollen from the wet fowl pox she got, that she can't pull the food back and swallow it. It all either falls back out or gets stuck in the front of her beak. Yesterday I tried dipping her beak in a bucket of water a few times to see what she would do, and she went through the notions of drinking but never got any into her beak.

Her comb looks good. Now it's just a little scab where the spike on her comb used to be. It doesn't seem to bother her, but I can't get used to it! Now she has a big empty space. Once her comb is fully grown it shouldn't be as noticeable. I'm pretty sure one of my big girls did it to her. Sunni likes to spend a lot of time right next to the fence that divides the two coops, and I think one of the adults pecked her through the fence.

I plan on starting to integrate my little girls into the big coop with the adults on Wednesday. I'm hoping that it'll go okay. I was told the best time to start integrating them is when they're 4 months old, and they will be 4 months next week Sunday. Hopefully my naughty old ladies behave themselves.

Thank you all for your support. I just spent the last couple hours cleaning every inch of the brooder coop and put in fresh bedding. I do not think they are getting trampled, I have 2 heat lamps spaced apart from each other so they have plenty of warm areas but can move away to a cooler spot if they choose. I've had 100+ chicks together in a smaller area before and never lost any other than a DOA or the day after arrival.
I was examining every chick when moving them into the temperary brooder and I noticed a lot of the chicks had what looked like a tiny bit of dried blood on their nostril and I've never seen weird nostrils on any of my other shipments, but some of these looked they might have a defect of some sort. I'll take a picture and post it tomorrow morning. I'm emotionally and physically exhausted at this point. Sorry for practically writing a book here.

How is everyone doing this morning? Hoping for no more losses over the weekend :(

Hopefully the move is fairly uneventful.

Fortunately I haven't lost any more since #8 the New Hampshire on Sat, but I still worry about going out and finding another dead chick every time I go out to the brooder coop. I just got off the phone with Meyer and the service woman was going to check with the flock manager to see what could have possibly happened. I posted pictures of the bloody nosed chicks in my default pic folder , if any of you want to take a look. I will post some pics later but I'm on my phone right now so it has to wait until later. On the positive side, I have 61 beautiful baby chicks that I can still enjoy. I think I've figured out all of the breeds except this cute little chestnut headed silver/blk backed chick, I've gone through the catalog so many times I have it memorized and still can't figure out what she is.
