Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Okay, I went back and counted through my egg calendar. Keep in mind that I have 22 hens. 7 of them are going on 6 years old, 7 just started laying, and 2 aren't laying yet.

Month, Eggs, and Dozens.

June: 223 eggs (18 dozen)

July: 204 eggs (17 dozen)

August: 204 eggs (17 dozen)

September: (Annie, Alice, and Lucy started laying) 233 eggs (19 dozen)

October: (Sunni, Ellie, and Daffodil started laying) 257 eggs (21 dozen)

The first 5 days of November: (Lizzie started laying) 47 eggs (almost 4 dozen)

All this time I have been thinking that my girls are slacking and that I haven't gotten very many eggs from them, but looking back, I have really gotten 1,238 eggs in the last 5 and a half months. That's a lot of eggs!!
Oh wow! That is a lot of eggs!

Since I have 22 chickens now, I guess we'll be eating a whole lot of eggs once my younger 16 start too!

Our family at home now is just 3, but I imagine my grown sons and their wives will help out by taking a dozen here and there once we have extra. Right now it seems we are sitting by the nest boxes with a frying pan waiting for eggs each day.

I imagine, my brothers, sisters and in-laws will help us out too. Everyone, including coworkers are asking for eggs, but we're keeping them to ourselves now.

I would imagine you'll be getting even more eggs than I do, since a lot of my girls don't lay anymore. I really hope the city council decided to allow me to have some of my chickens. I do NOT want to buy store eggs. We'll have to see about getting eggs from the lady that we get our beef and pork from. Her chickens may not be as healthy as mine, but hers are a lot better than store eggs.

I'm soooo envious of your egg tallies, since mine is as follows....

October = 0
November so far = 0

:(

Girls are 24 weeks now and I'm anxious. I keep threatening them, that they are going to go on a diet if someone doesn't start laying some eggs! Haha, it's not working... I feel like I have 2 that could lay any day, but nada. The comb and wattles on my australorpe are huge and they're pretty big on my speckled Sussex too, plus last time I checked her hip bones were 2 fingers apart... I know, I know, when I quit bugging them so much they'll all probably start laying at once...

5 hens (24 weeks) started laying October 1. Got 1-3 eggs for 2 weeks. Then 2-4 for a couple of weeks. Now get 4-5 a day for the last week. Two more chicks are queing up and should start laying within the next couple of weeks. RIRs and barred rocks from Meyers. One is a red and white mix that was the freebie. I donated two of my meat chickens rather then give her up. She lays eggs like crazy.

It has been relatively warm and these chickens are WELL FED - dry mash in automatic feeder, fermented mash 1x a day, pumpkin whenever they want it, various leftovers and weeds are tossed in when we have it, scratch and grazing out of their coop pen for an hour before bed. The grass in their pen 40x40 is starting to die back in the Fall. They have plenty of feathers and a snug house but they start eating non stop after they start laying.

I is so hard to go back to store bought once you've tasted the best! I hope that the city council does approve of your chickens too.

So sorry, guess they'll start soon, it is so hard to wait. What other breeds do you have? I heard that it is healthy for the chicken if they wait until they are older anyway, so you must have healthy chickens.

Everyone talking talking about their hens laying at 24 weeks and some not even laying at that age is worrying me now. Well at least we do get a few from our older ones, so I guess I should not complain. Those RIR's and BR's are good layers and I have heard that the Golden Buffs are great layers as well. It sounds like your chickens eat very well too.

The ones that are laying eggs are constantly eating. Two are actually staying quite chubby (BRs). The rest look like they are laying eggs everyday. I would rather get just a couple a week. When I think what it must take to pop out an egg a day...that is alot...

My 9 girls are 26 and a half weeks, and two of them still haven't started laying eggs. Lilly (Black Australorp) and Amber (Easter Egger). Neither of them even seem close to starting... :/

Well hearing about everyone else's girls who are late laying is making me feel better about my girls. They are 22 weeks on Wednesday the 13th. I had 1 Golden Buff that started to lay but contracted a secondary infection (respiratory) from the Fowl Pox and died after laying 2 beautiful eggs

Some of my Barred Rock and Aussie mix girls look they might lay soon, but most of my girls still have small pale pullet combs. I know that the vaccine I gave them said not to administer to POL pullets but I really had no choice, I HAD to give it to them because I have no extra coop to separate the symptom showers. I was really worried that the vaccination was why they wouldn't be laying yet. At least there is hope that I didn't totally ruin my pretty babies.

I forgot that your girls had Fowl Pox. How are they doing? So sorry about your Golden Buff...
