Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

They are doing okay. I have a Barred Rock that I was worried might develop the wet kind because she has a pox on her beakline on the right side of her face and her face swelled up for a while. I immediately put her in the "hospital" cage and was giving her antibiotic shots for the first few days. The swelling has subsided but it is still horrible to look at. At least she is eating well now. Hopefully the big nasty scab will fall off and she'll look normal again.

I had another hen (my FAVORITE blue one, of course) that has a respiratory thing going on, so I am treating her with antibiotics too. It does seem to be helping her so far, I think her breath is less raspy than last week. I am using Tylan 50 and giving them 1/2 cc shots, morning and night. I had to woman-up and get over my irrational fear of needles to give her the shots, it still makes my stupid hands sweat when I see the syringe.

That's really sad... Poor chickens. It's a good thing you were on it and vaccinated them as soon as you noticed the symptoms. Otherwise it wouldn't gotten really out of control. I hope the ones that have it the worst get well soon, and that none of them get the wet form of Fowl Pox.

The ones that are laying eggs are constantly eating. Two are actually staying quite chubby (BRs). The rest look like they are laying eggs everyday. I would rather get just a couple a week. When I think what it must take to pop out an egg a day...that is alot...
My little ones are 14 weeks and I am having to reload the feeders so much more now. Chickens can eat a lot!

Well hearing about everyone else's girls who are late laying is making me feel better about my girls. They are 22 weeks on Wednesday the 13th. I had 1 Golden Buff that started to lay but contracted a secondary infection (respiratory) from the Fowl Pox and died after laying 2 beautiful eggs

.

Some of my Barred Rock and Aussie mix girls look they might lay soon, but most of my girls still have small pale pullet combs. I know that the vaccine I gave them said not to administer to POL pullets but I really had no choice, I HAD to give it to them because I have no extra coop to separate the symptom showers. I was really worried that the vaccination was why they wouldn't be laying yet. At least there is hope that I didn't totally ruin my pretty babies.
I am so sorry about your Golden Buff. I had about 8 chickens just starting to lay eggs when a dog attacked our chickens and killed all the layers, plus 5 more. So I can relate, it is so upsetting and frustrating all at the same time.

I guess I should look for eggs in December instead of November, they'll be 16 weeks at the end of this month and so 20 weeks in December, of course in may not be until January for most of them since they'll be 24 weeks then.

My one brown leghorn is the only one of the new chicks that looks like she is getting some comb and wattle growth. The white leghorn I had before laid at 17 weeks, so maybe I'll have one that lays in November, she is already starting to talk to me a little too. She's still young, just 14 weeks.

Most of the infected girls' pox seem to be healing so I really hope everything will completely be passed in the next couple weeks. I think there might be six showing symptoms.

I about peed my pants I was sooo excited when I found it! Got home from work and almost didnt even check, but decided too and it was in the nestbox and everything!!! Wish I knew who laid it! My BA, CW and BO all have hipbones over 2 fingers apart. The BA has by far the most mature comb and wattles. Hoping to figure out who it was this weekend when I'm home during the day!!!

Here is my most tecent picture of my white silkie. They hatched mothers day week this year so she is still relatively ypung. She isn't as pretty as the others I had also gotten but I don't have any more. NOT due to Meyers. 1 was rehomed because he was a roo and a fox got my other.

I have one that looks identical, just a little smaller. She is pretty. Glad to hear that most of your chickens are doing better. I wish a speedy recover to the six others.
