Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Good morning!

My Meyer babies are 6 months old today (by the day--they were born May 12)! I didn't get a picture of my smooth-feathered black Cochin bantam from their frizzle Cochin bantams, but here are my little Meyer ladies:

Huka the Silver Lakenvelder, clearly not happy about this morning's snow:

Ihi the Golden Campine, who was probably glaring because I was following her around.

Marama the Egyptian Fayoumi:

Rangi the Ancona, first on the ground and then on my shoulder.

Roha the Exchequer Leghorn, who I had to boot out from her hiding place:

And Whiri the Light Brown Leghorn, who went out in the snow and then decided to go back to the coop:

Oh, and a couple of my older Meyer girls. My year-old blue splash Marans from Meyer, Frou-Frou, flying out of the pop door. She is in mid-molt, so she's kind of tufty right now:

And this one I thought was adorable. First snow last winter, 2012, here is my Meyer Partridge Plymouth Rock, Fancy (on the left):

Now this morning, here she is:

She's hiding in the same place and for the same reason.

I love the pictures! Happy 6 months! My first set of Meyers, 6 hens are 9 months now, the one remaining from my 2nd set, Daisy is around 7 months and my 16 new ones are almost 4 months. Wow, they grow up fast, don't they?

Your chickens are beautiful, I love all those breeds, such a great variety!

I knew I have 3 hens laying! Got home from work and errands and had 3 eggs in the nestbox! Oh, this is sooo much fun!!! Funny thing is now I feel like I have 4 different looking eggs!
It is fun trying to figure out who is laying what egg. Just when you think you have it all figured out, they lay a weird looking or different one and you have to rethink everything.

I am on my last bag of chick grower that everyone is sharing. As soon as this one runs out everyone is switching to layer food again. I'm excited that the little ones will be 16 weeks on Monday. After that, the wait begins! A lot of them don't have much comb and wattle growth right now though, only my brown leghorn really.

I have to get pics of them soon! They're all getting so big. When I counted them before, I would count the 6 big hens then the 16 little ones, now they are all so big, so I just count 22 hens all together.

I can't believe the new catalog is coming out! Where did the year go? Last year at this time I was working on my order for getting chickens for the first time in 2013 and we were just beginning working on the coop and run, so much as happened since then. I have also learned a lot, both good and bad lessons since then. Having chickens is so much fun! I will be wishing for more chickens by the spring for sure, I have no room, but I am sure that catalog will just feed the obsession, maybe I should hide it from myself!

Lynn, you're going to start feeding layer to your 16wk olds? The older girls should be fine laying without extra calcium until the young ones start laying, I've done that plenty of times.

I just happen to find these 2 pics of my Meyer girls who I got mid April of this year:

Still in the box:

And today:

They are pretty nice girls though the Welsummers are a little bossy and definitely the busy bodies of the group. The Golden Campine is flighty as can be. The SLW's & the Barnevelder are the friendliest so far.

Mine turned 18 weeks old this week, dont have current picks. I do have say my barnevelder is the meanest. She actually bit me with her beak last week. Never had that happen til her. I also recieved 4 black copper marans. I do have to say I am not happy with the quality at all. Only one has feathered shanks. Then I have one that has no copper in her neck at all, all black.

I don't have any pictures of my girls... :( They have been stuck in the coop for the last 3 weeks because of the hawk, and the lighting in my coop is terrible for pictures. I really want to try and get some pictures of all of my chickens before they go to their new homes (wherever that may be). We are most definitely moving, and the city council still hasn't decided whether or not they are going to allow chickens. Which means all of my girls except two are going to new homes. I am keeping my two special needs girls. Sunni, and Henny. Henny is very old and almost completely blind. I think the stress of living in a new place and not having me there would kill her. We are going to make a tiny chicken palace in the basement of the new house. It'll have dust bath boxes, things to climb on, and hopefully some trays of grass in the Spring.

I could get in serious trouble if anyone found out that I will have two chickens in the house, so mums the word. We are going to hopefully put up a 6' privacy fence so they can at least go out and run around in the back yard when I'm out there gardening.

I'm really heartbroken that I can't take all of my girls (and boy) with me, but we are going to find them some good homes. Hopefully where they can all live together and don't have to be split up.

Where at in Michigan are you? My Mom *might* be able to take the whole flock.

Nope, I still have a lot of the starter feed still in the bag so it should be enough to get them to 18 weeks old.

I am in Hastings Michigan. I thought I might add that six of my 21 girls are almost 6 years old. We rescued them from terrible conditions, and we are letting them live out their lives naturally. We would be willing to reimburse your mom (if she's interested in the chickens) to help cover the cost of feed for the old ones. Three of them still lay eggs almost every day, and two of the others might be at their last winter.

The rest of the girls are all 2 years or less, and they are all still laying. (not at this time though because most of them are going through a molt)

If she is interested or if you have any more questions, please feel free to PM me.
