Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

They sure are pretty! Is your Meyer girl laying? What do her eggs look like, very dark?

MsChickenMomma- I'm so glad you found a place for your whole flock and that you can visit them! Maybe if your town approves them you'll be able to get a few of your favorites? Are you still planning on keeping the 2 in the house?

Does anyone know if the size of the eggs I'm getting now is pretty much full size or will they still get a bit larger as they get older? My girls are 8 months old (born March 10) They just seem kinda small still even my BA's and RIR are just med to large weight. Just curious.
I have seen her hanging around the coop during the day now but I'm not sure if she is actually laying. She just seems to be interested in the nest and with the shorter days it may be Spring before she lays. My 2 SLW's are the only ones I've actually seen on the nests and I have gotten some small eggs - but none are dark. I got a Cuckoo Marans from Meyer a couple of years ago but she doesn't lay very dark eggs. She also has yellow legs and appears to have another breed mixed in. I think the only way to get really dark eggs would be to buy from a breeder. The Barnies I hatched are from a local farmer but I don't know where her original stock came from and the hatching eggs weren't especially dark - just sort of speckled - so I'm not expecting dark eggs from them either.

Welcome back, NotableNancy!

I'm happy to hear that you are getting things repaired now. It seems around here as well, that if one thing breaks, other things follow.

All my chickens are doing well. We've been surviving the cold temps for NC, which have dropped in the 20's the past few nights and the days have been cold too. Now it has warmed up, but we've had rain showers. Oh well, the rain is good for the garden. I'm glad we are back to warm weather again for a little bit. I guess I did well with the coop insulation since everyone seems to be doing well.

Oh and 2 leghorns equals 1 mean RIR for sure!

My RIR lays eggs that are 2.0 to 2.2 every time she lays. My BO's eggs seem to always be 1.9 to 2.0. Both BR's and my White Rock lay eggs that are typically 1.8 each time. When my EE was laying her eggs were always between 1.6 and 1.8. I wondered the same thing about the size of the eggs increasing as they get older. It seems to be the case with Ash the RIR and Big Mama the BO, but not the others.

My light brown leghorn Izzie was already checking out the nest boxes today. Her comb and wattles are pretty big now and her earlobes have really gotten bigger and are very white now too. So maybe within the next few weeks we'll have eggs from her. Since they'll be 16 weeks on Monday, I know that I should be patient. The anticipation is fun though!

Those Barnevelder are so pretty! That is not a breed that I was considering before, until now that is.

So Amber has been squatting like crazy lately. You don't even have to reach for her, just move near her and she squats.

Then today.... she laid an egg again!!! Yeah! That's the first one since the attack back in July! This is only her 3rd egg. Can't wait to see how often she lays. I'm so happy.

It has been cold here in NC lately, I live in western NC above GA. My chicken's water has been frozen in the morning a couple times, I may have to invest in a heated one. I just got this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004TZK9AI/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and I LOVE it, but I may have to splurge for a heated one too... So far the chickens seem to be okay in the cold weather.

That's great, it is so nice when they make a full recovery and finally lay that first egg after going through a traumatic event. Congrats!

I only noticed ours freezing once during the really cold days. I have 2 waterers and can just swap out the frozen one in the morning when it happens. Our coop is further from the house and I hate running an extension cord to it. I do like the idea of a heated one though, it would make my life easier.

Our water freezes nearly every night now. I switched to the black rubber type bowl. I like these better because the ice breaks away so easy, just flip it over. Right now only a small layer on top freezes so I just pick up the frozen part and toss it in the garden. I used to move their waterer into the coop on cold nights but they made such a mess with it that I stopped that. I have a heater that goes under the bowl but that didn't keep it completely thawed either. The black bowls definitely seem like the easiest for me right now.

We're going to have 4 more temporary indoor chickens soon. My friend is selling her house (that doesn't allow chickens) so she needs somewhere to keep her indoor chickens for awhile. I haven't told DH yet. They live in big troughs, not running free in the house, hopefully he won't freak out too much. ;)

Here are the little ones at 16 weeks now:

Rocky - Partridge Rock

Izzie - Light Brown Leghorn (everyone wonders if she is a rooster with that large comb, I know she is not. I expect eggs from her 1st)

Blackie - Black Australorp - she is a huge hen

Sally - Salmon Faverolle - she is so friendly and talkative

Dottie - Columbian Wyandotte - sweet but very shy

Cuckoo - Cuckoo Maran

Zany - Cuckoo Maran (she has more white striping on her, that's how I tell them apart)

Campy - Golden Campine - she flies the best and the longest of all of them

Ginger - Golden Buff - sweet and friendly

Mini - Welsummer, but she has white earlobes, so I am a little confused

Andi - Blue Andulasion- she's a good flyer too and likes to jump on the fence to eat my plants

Lacie - Golden Laced Wyandotte - she is so pretty in person, the black on her has a green tint in the sunlight. She is friendly too.

Greta - EE - My most puffy faced one of the new ones. She has a single comb and green legs. We'll see what color eggs she lays, I guess. Even though, she's a good and fun chicken to have around.

Splash - Blue Andulasion - one of my mystery rare breeds - She is a flyer too. Both my andulasions and my golden campine are getting into places they shouldn't, but fortunately they do not like to stray far or go out of the garden area.

Ellie - EE - I believe she may have a pea comb, not positive since it is still so small. She has green legs too and a puffy face.

Here she is flapping her wings. Neither one of my two new EE's have blue on them so far. My 40 week old one has a lot of blue feathers.

Buffy - Buff Laced Polish - Everyone just loves her. She is getting more friendly with us too. Poor thing can't see very well though.

I believe Olivia my 40 week old EE is coming out of her molt. She still is not squatting but is getting more talkative now, so maybe she'll start laying again. I hope so.

Daisy - White Rock - my only 29 week old - she lays almost everyday a cute little 1.8 brown egg. She is so much more friendly around us and is always fussing at me for treats. She is a terror to the 16 week olds and thinks it is her job to chase them around and peck them. Of course the 40 week old ladies peck her all the time, so she just passes it down.

The rest of the 40 week olds
Big Mama - Buff Orpington - lays a oblong brown egg with freckles on it almost everyday. My fattest hen.

Pepper and Oreo- my tag team Barred Rocks- it seems they can not lay an egg on the same day, so they switch off tag teaming who lays that day. Oreo on the right is the flock leader, everyone is scared of her. She is great with people though.

Here is my husband digging up worms for the girls. He really enjoys their eggs and wanted to treat them today.

Ash - RIR - She is the alarm caller if anything is near the coop. She has a loud warning call. She lays a large 2.1 to 2.2 ounce egg almost everyday and it is a very round egg.

Those are all my girls, they are all from Meyer Hatchery too.

I love having chickens, they are so much fun!

Oh boy... 4 more chickens in the house!!! My DH would freak for sure :)
I took my heated waterer back since it didn't work and was debating between just a heated dog dish or the galvanized heater to put under my galvanized waterer and went with the 2nd option. I thought the dog bowl looked easy to use but I think my girls will get it filthy. They get their regular waterers full of sand and they're elevated or hanging so I didn't want to spend almost $60 to be unhappy with it. Maybe I'll look on ebay to find a cheap one.

@RoostersCrow,HensDeliver! How are you chickens doing? Are the ones with Fowl Pox improving?

@LynnEBC Your girls are so beautiful!! I love Big Mama. She is so big and beautiful. Daffodil is about that same size, just not quite as fat. Sunni is MUCH smaller than Daffodil. The two of them were standing next to each other last week, and Sunni is a lot shorter and not nearly as long. Sunni is also darker than Daffodil. Maybe she's a mix? Or it might be because she spent 3 months of her life on a liquid diet. I love how unique all of your EE's are! Hopefully you'll get lots of green eggs from them.

My girls (and boy) are all going to their new home on Wednesday. I have a lot that I need do before than. The lady they are going to wants everything. The feeders, the doors on the coop, the roosts, the metal feed bins, the fencing, the stall mats, etc. So tomorrow I have to spend the day getting it all cleaned up. It'll give me a good reason to spend the day with the chickens. :D
