Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Hi, my name is Diana, and I am a chickaholic. Love, love LOVE last week's two Easter Eggers, so I decided to get another one, and then I couldn't resist a Buckeye chick, since it's also been on my wish list, except that was supposed to be for next year.... But this puts me one chicken over my target of 20. It has to stop here! Here are Gingersnap and Weetabix. They are 8 days old, leftover from the store's order from last week. Gingersnap is the Buckeye Weetabix appears to have some ear tufts. Unless lighter down just happens to be longer than darker down. Last fall when I discovered chicken keeping, I was amazed at how awesome chickens are. I had no idea that baby chicks were even more awesome! I am going to have to start telling myself "No", and so far, I have no experience in NOT buying baby chicks! Well, I did pass up on some that were not in keeping with my plans and wish list. I'm sure I do have some self control. :/

I have to control myself as i have allot right now. But theres a thread on here for the cackle suprise and I so wanna get it but cant right now. Maybe next year.

Finnie, those are some great pictures, and some cute chicks! I love the ones of the chickens sitting on the fence with the turkeys. And your BLRW has turned out really nicely! Sorry she didn't end up being a black for you, but she does seem to have really nice lacing so far and a pretty deep base color for a young hatchery bird--I spent some time reading through the BLRW thread on here, and people can be so critical even of the breeders' birds, it leads you to think that the hatchery birds might turn out looking nothing like what they should. But I would be really happy if my Meyer BLRW (coming later this month) turns out anything like Blossom. Who is the bird in the first pic with her? Is it a Lavender Ameraucana? Very pretty. I'd also love to get an OE like Corabeth--the all black is very classy, I think. I love your chicks' names, too! They're all great, but Weetabix is particularly adorable. I finally settled on names for my crew, so I'll post those with updated pics as soon as I manage to clear off enough space on my phone to take more pics.

I was reading through the BLRW thread too, until we re-did our computer and I lost all my bookmarks. Now I don't remember what page I was on, so I gave up.

Yes, it's a Lavender Ameraucana.

I love naming things. I breed budgies and finches, and every one of them gets a name. Well, not the babies that are for sale, only if they don't sell and are still here at six months old. When I was in Middle School, running in gym, I used to think up names for all my future children.

Even as an adult I did that. We stopped at five kids, but I still had six unused girl names on my list! I have not used those for chickens though.

I hope it changes for you, too. I read on the BLRW thread that roosters don't get much lacing on their backs when they feather up. Fingers crossed that yours gets nice lacing!

Finnie, I hear you on the kids' names! We have 3 kids, and we'll probably stop there, but I still have a bunch of beloved unused girls' names that I can't bear to give to a pet, just in case we end up with another girl down the road! I have started pulling some of the names from farther down my girls' list for this crew, though--the ones I know we'd almost certainly never end up using even if we had several more girls (which definitely won't happen!!).

Pandapaws, I also noticed that the roos didn't seem to have as much lacing, so maybe that's part of what's going on in your situation. I clicked on the link in your signature and looked at your more recent pics of the BLRWs--it looks at least like your splash roo has some defined lacing, but that it's a bit more haphazard on the blue, right? Maybe it will improve for both of them as they get older--that seemed to be a thing people talked about on the BLRW thread, as well.

He has no lacings on his chest. But hopefully he gets better as he ages. As for naming things my chickens dont really have names but all my budgies have names even chicks. I have a chick right now that i think im gonna name katy like katy perry lol
