Meyer Hatchery? Is It Trustworthy?

I have ordered chicks from many hatcheries. Last year I ordered from Meyer and Valley Farms. I had 3 dead chicks and 4 more died the first day from Meyer. They took good care of me on it. I also had good luck with Valley Farms. Only hatchery I have had problems with is Privett and it is the closest one to me.

I have 25 more coming from Valley farms on the 13th. I order from whomever has the selection and shipping dates that works for me. Meyer didn't this time around. Valley has the best prices too.

As far as buying them from the local feed store, I am right at 100% cockerels even though they sold them as pullets. By the time you figure it out, it's too late to do anything about it. Straight run is too risky for me.

Meyer by mail once, but the chicks were all dead - likely due to mishandling by USPS (based on specifics). Meyer refunded the chick cost (not the shipping), without issue and they were easy to deal with. Later on we selected several from the random chick bin a few days after hatch, in their store. We bought 7 sexed female chicks, and 2 were male. However, all were healthy and now at age five months the two we kept (sold the others a few weeks ago) should be laying soon. Meyer began a "100% Correct Sexing" guarantee this year, so you can check out their website for the details. Of course, if you are buying started pullets, then I cant imagine you would get anything but females. Overall, an established hatchery that I would consider buying from again.

What state do you live in? Their started pullets ship at the end of June. They will not ship then if the weather is too hot, but it might be harder to ship them to a state that is already hot at that time. I live in Michigan, so end of June for us (and Ohio) can be a lot different than a southern state.
