Meyer hatchery ordering question

update: I called at 9am this morning. I was told the order shows shipped but there's no tracking available, still.

If they did shipped, there's a chance they could arrive today.

I called my post office first things this morning to notify them... Hopefully they call me if they receive them.

If the post office is close enough, I'd just go over there and check in person. But your PO is answering the phone - that's a good sign. They might actually, eventually, call you.

another update:

Waited an hour and half and contact customer service again. I was told "for some reason they didn't ship yesterday. They are working on getting it shipped next Monday."

I disapproved of that answer which was followed up with, "the latest they'll ship is next monday. they're working on getting them shipped ASAP."


I know things happen and hatch days aren't always smooth.. but I expected better communication. So disappointed. I ordered these back in October and took off work. :barnie

Waited an hour and half and contact customer service again. I was told "for some reason they didn't ship yesterday. They are working on getting it shipped next Monday."

I disapproved of that answer which was followed up with, "the latest they'll ship is next monday. they're working on getting them shipped ASAP."


I know things happen and hatch days aren't always smooth.. but I expected better communication. So disappointed. I ordered these back in October and took off work. :barnie
Oh no! How frustrating!!! Gah! 😭 Did they say what happened?
 
There's a lot of unknown factors in that business. They're swamped with orders. And can't ship them fast enough. They are limited to what hatches each day. Most people only want hens, unless they're meat birds. So they lose half of their hatch, due to males. I ordered from Meyer last April for an August 28th hatch. They were shipped August 29th. And I received them on August 31st. I'm sure they're behind due to the influx on people wanting chickens. I think by fall, there will be a LOT of people rehoming chickens. Once they realize the eggs aren't cheaper. Especially when you add your upfront cost, feed cost, supply costs, and the time and energy needed to put in to raising your own chickens.

Oh no! That's awful!

I know sometimes if they don't have enough chicks to fill the order, and you don't allow substitutions, they will delay. Usually you tell them as part of the ordering process what you want to do in this case. Do you think that's what happened? So sorry!

I ordered from Welp hatchery (they seem to specialize in meat birds and common/commercial layers, and have a larger minimum order), and they told me, unless we contact you, assume they shipped. They straight out told me the tracking doesn't keep up so don't even bother to check it, but if they DIDN"T go out, Welp would text or call me immediately with an update. I got no tracking, but they were shipped when Welp said and showed up when expected. That being said, it was 25 straight run meat birds, so there wasn't going to be any shortages of the correct chicks there.

I'm sorry to hear that!
I'm sure it's disappointing, but at least you can be hopeful they will still ship next week. I've read that some places if there's a problem, then orders get completely cancelled and you have to basically start over.
