Hi I see most folks have had positive experiences with Meyer hatchery however I'm sorry to say I have not.I ordered 15 of their Golden Cuckoo Marans. Several were DOA they were great about refunding me but all eventually died but 5 they always seemed weak and I am very experienced with chicks I ordered 30 black Australorps and 30 gold sex links from Ideal poultry and they all arrived within a couple of days of each other. They are all 4 mths old now and have not lost any of the Ideal chicks, however I have lost all the cuckoos but 5.The reason I am posting this because I had 4 pullets and 1 rooster left and today I went out to feed them and the rooster seems to have come down with Mareks disease and I am extremely upset

especially since I paid to have them vaccinated for Mareks. I will not order from them again I am absolutely disgusted with them .

Oh no! This is so sad. I was about to cancel today. They have my money now. I almost want to cry. Too upsetting.

I called them to tell them about the Rooster and asked that they ship me another one the same age. They denied any responsibility and told me that they only vaccinate for 1 strain of Mareks and that it is brought over everywhere from wild birds. They told me it was my fault and that they only vaccinate for 1 strain of Mareks . I told them why is it they don't tell people that they only vaccinate for 1 strain of Mareks? I have 60 chickens the same age I bought from Ideal poultry and have not lost any and none have Mareks.I am extremely angry about this and will never buy another bird from them again!

I placed an order from Meyer last spring of 35 chicks. It was set to arrive on April 1st with another order from a different hatchery. The birds showed up on time with 34 of the chicks being very healthy and energetic, and only 1 clinging on to life. The cling-on came around within a few hours after getting hydrated and all the chicks developed nicely and at a good rate. I got 16 dark Cornish, 6 buckeyes, 6 welsummer and 7 Sumatra chickens of mixed sex. Most breeds were about 50:50 sex ratio except for the buckeyes which were 5:1 (roo:hey) I was and still am very happy with my Meyer hens. All the boosters (except the sumatrans) were jerks and ended up in the soup pot. I got 3 welsummer hens, 2 of which habitually lay 80+ gram eggs, the 1 buckeyes hen also lays large eggs but more in the lower 70 gram range. The welsummer girls all have spurs, which I really like and the buckeyes hen is awesome. The dc were not the most intelligent of birds I've seen and all but 1 got picked off. The 1 survivor is a great bird however. Now to the sumatrans...they are awesome pure and simple. They meet APA standards very well and the only problem I've had with them is deciding which rooster I should keep for a breeding experiment. I would highly recommend Meyer to anyone looking for hatchery quality birds.

Oops, sorry for all the spelling errors. Dang spell check on my phone likes to change words like hen to hey and rooster to booster, and buckeye to buckeyes. :/

It's okay. We understood. I have seen worst on byc. Thank you for your review. It eases me to know that someone had a good experience. I have a small mixed order of 18 chicks coming from Meyer's in April. I am excited, but then so many people told me that I should not deal with them and cancel my order. My husband feels that if we do what we are suppose to do, we should be fine.

Yikes!!

I had a great first experience with Meyers, but this is scary enough to make me hesitate. Thanks for sharing.

I just picked up my 8 chicks from Meyer Hatchery today. I know its early on in the going but I'm shocked to see any negative reviews about this company. Their customer service through my entire process has been outstanding. Their retail store is bright, clean, with plenty of products to browse through and a friendly staff. I suppose I still need to let these little ones grow up and see how their health holds up but isn't that a chance you take with any livestock, poultry, pet, etc.? In regards to someone talking about their flock coming down with Mareks - I'm sorry to hear that. Although, like any other virus, I assume there is multiple strains of Mareks? As a human if you get the flu vaccine it does not protect you against all strains of the flu - just the most common types.

Overall, my experience thus far with Meyer Hatchery has been positive. I will update if something changes!

I am getting some chicks from Meyers in a few weeks. Have any of you gotten Easter Eggers from them in past years? How did you like them? What was their size and egg coloring like?
