Meyer Hatchery Shipping Error

Glad to hear your babies made it OK. I'm a newbie (never had chicken before) and I ordered about two months ago from Meyer (a small order, and paid extra for shipping like you)...they are supposed to arrive week after next. Fingers crossed that their shipping glitch is fixed!

I'm also a newbie to chickens and got my 4 Black Australorps and 1 Barred Rock on Tuesday from Meyer, all alive and doing great. They were hatched Monday and at 10am Tuesday morning I got the call from the PO saying there here. I live in the Boston area, I'm very pleased with Meyer and will definitely order again because this chicken math messes with your mind.

Good Luck

Ha chicken math...I know how you feel, one year ago I got just a couple chickens "just for fun". Later last summer we all of a sudden had 50 meaties, 15 layers and wanting more. Now (since January) I have gotten two incubators and am in the process of restoring an old brower that was my dads. As well as adding 10 more to my flock with my own hatches. Its amazing what can happen in a year. I already have people asking for chicks and wondering when i am going to be selling more meaties.

YES! Chicken math is dangerous! I started with 6 chicks... State minimum to purchase... By the end of the year, I had a flock of 15. Last week I bought TWO hovabators and ordered hatching eggs of three different rare breeds. Now I am building one breeding pen after another, brooders, etc. I have not been this obsessed about anything. My husband and kids think I am certifiable!

My wife is so sick of hearing about chickens lately. She sure doesn't complain about always having fresh eggs and meat! She just gets sick of me talking about chickens all day! I tell her some day we will make money on them but I know that most likely will not happen. i would be happy if they would pay for themselves. I am currently selling hatching eggs that by all figures makes me break even. All the work and worry is worth it! I used to go fishing for a hobby but with three kids ages 3, 2 and 10 months it is REALLY hard to get away from the house! Chickens are a great hobby for me. And my kids love them, especially the chicks!

Lol... My husband HATES hearing me talk about chickens also. I have recently started cutting his complaining off by reminding him of how, for 20 years, I have supported his hobbies... Fishing, bowling, hunting, etc... I then remind him how much those hobbies cost.... He has paid hundreds of dollars on one fishing pole... He had a bowling ball that cost over 300 and it was only one of four he had to use depending on lane conditions ( bla bla bla), I do not even know how many thousands of dollars he has spent on hunting equipment, guns, hunting cloths, etc (and he tried to concincpce me that we were getting free dear meat! Yeah right!

Chickens is the first real hobbie I have had in 20 years... I think he got off cheap and is lucky that it is not something worse!

Where in MN ? I'm in MN as well,We have 4 RSL and one Dom, they did just fine this winter. Our coop is in the garage so it's about 10 degree warmer than outside. We do not heat it. We have an order of chicks coming the first week in April, the same time our hens will be one year old they were from Meyer last year. Cute babies!

Oh geez...if that's "chicken math," I'm in trouble. I've only ordered 8 chicks...but my other "hobby" is horses (which I would guess is even more expensive than car racing)...I think if chicken math works that way, my husband might divorce me!

Well, I would have to say chickens are much cheaper than horses, however I am not giving up a single horse for the 26 chicks we now have! LOL!!!! DH just rolls eyes and goes along with our daughter and my "projects" Chicken math is easier to justify than bringing home a new horse!
