Meyer Hatchery

Almost all mail order chicken hatcheries do not hatch their own ducklings. Instead they drop ship them from Metzers Farms, which is fine as Metzers is an absolutely top notch family business. But I wish the chicken hatcheries would be more open about it instead of pretending to be a duck hatchery.
I agree. I would rather go through Metzer directly now knowing what I know now, than dealing with second parties it's confusing and unnecessary.

Mine were received within 28 hours. Check the website to see if this is normal. I was guided to call if not received first day by close of post office because the chics can only survive off the yolk for a couple days. Important to start chic vit a pak water right away to perk them up and put in the brooder as they have not had anything to eat since hatched and will require temp control at 90-95 if one day olds. Brooder should be pre-heated.
They arrived a day later after I posted the original post. They are very healthy and active and super cute I have been using a 100 watt light bulb and the they are in a storage container. Everyone has told me the ducks don't need the light as long as the chicks so once I feel they are sitting under the light less and less I will remove it.

I ordered from Meyer for the first time recently with delivery expected next week. How do they determine and )how will know) which of the several post offices in my area will receive the chicks? I'd like to give them a heads up and know where I need to be.

which post office/mail center does your mail go through? Whichever post office your mail goes to before going on the truck, is your post office. That's where your chicks will end up.

Once you figure out which post office is yours (and you can ask your carrier,) be sure to call them to let them know you have live chicks coming. Some automatically keep them there for pick-up, others send them out on the truck. You can specify which you prefer. I always have them held and pick them up, myself. That way, they're less stressed and I can get them early in the day (more time to watch fluffy-butts playing!)

agree... depending on where you are though, they will automatically be held. They will call you to tell you that you have a box for pickup. If you haven't figured out which post office is your's by then, you can ask at that point.

Meyer chicks were healthy however they didnt exactly meet the expectations. I ordered a rainbow box and didnt exactly get a rainbow, quite the contrary really. Meyer made no attempts to make it right. Good to know about metzer, ill work on going through them for my gosling order
