Hey, has anyone ordered from both? We did McMurray last year, and had a great experience. But Meyer is closer. I'd like to hear opinions of both.

I've only ever ordered from Ideal and I have been very pleased both times. They have excellant constumer service, a great selection, and very reasonable handling and shipping charges.

McMurray is a joke. I ordered 35 chicks a few months ago. 13 were DOA. The rest have died off one by one because they are so sickly. They brought disease into my flock that wasn't there before so now I have a bunch of sick chickens. I only have 9 of the 35 alive today:( I took great care of them also. And to top that off they are not the breeds I had ordered.

Most of them are EEs and I had ordered 2 EEs total in the order of 35. The rest were to be RIR, BO, and white leghorn. I am very mad and won't ever order from McMurray again. Oh, they also drop-shipped them from Texas! Hello, I ordered from an IA company so the chicks didn't have to come from TX. I am trying out Sandhill this year instead.

Meyer is my personal favorite for variety, customer service, price and quality of chicks. I have had nothing but good experience with them. I think I've ordered from them four or more times.

McMurrary is good, I haven't had bad experiences with them either but I can't see how they justify their prices.

Sorry to hear that about your order. I have ordered from McMurray three times and have always had good luck and 100% survival rate.

I ordered Doms from Meyer last year and they are fabulous. The combs are picture perfect on the hens and they arrived healthy and happy! Combs on the roos are really nice too. The ones from Stromberg have less perfect shaped combs but the hens are great layers! Since you are in Ohio you might take a look at the Dominiques. When it was -24 windchill the other day the chickens were annoyed but fine in the coop with no heat. They are still laying but not as much since the molt started.

I think the problem came from TX but I am not sure what hatchery they came from the label still said McMurray. It just makes me mad each time their ad shows up on here. I did get our money back for the 13 DOAs. But, the rest I paid for one breed and got another which does not at all make me happy. I have a one-eyed chick from them also. But that is not as bad as the breeds all being wrong and so many of the order dying. I'm glad everyone else is happy with McMurray but I for one am not.
