I bought 8 chicks from
Tractor Supply almost a year ago.
They source them from Hoover.
The 6 straight run Naked Necks turned out to be 3 males and 3 females.
One female died at 4 weeks and two of the cockerels went to freezer camp.
Of the remaining NN, the cockerel has turned out to be a great flock master and the two pullets lay well with large sized eggs.
One even lays a pink egg!
The two bantams were both cockerels and neither made it to a year old.
I ordered 13 chicks from Meyer in July.
One Australorp turned out to be a cockerel. He is a fine specimen and doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body.
One chick died at two weeks and I lost an EE pullet to a roaming dog because she had gone over the fence.
The rest of the pullets (Plymouth Rocks, Australorps, Speckled Sussex and an EE) are absolutely gorgeous and started laying in December.
They are all friendly and get along well with each other and my NNs and dominant sex link hen.
I’m very pleased with Meyers birds and will order from them again.
