I'm going to be ordering a small number of chicks soon, and my two options are Meyers and Hoover's. Looking for personal reviews on either, or which you preferred if you've ordered from both. Also if you have any links for past reviews on Meyers and Hoover's (I've read almost all the threads on BYC for these hatcheries, but I'm looking for as many experiences as possible so I can decide better.)

Thanks! :)

I’ve ordered from both, I like the Meyers quality better. Chicks are more rubust and healthy even the feathering when they grow up are prettier. Must be the stock parents are better quality.

I've ordered from Meyers a few times, mostly meat birds. They always show up robust and healthy with no losses. They recently instituted a policy where if they send you a bird of the wrong gender by accident they will refund or replace for free, so they give you a 100% gender accuracy guarantee this way even on day old chicks. Never heard of hoovers.

I went with Meyers. Very healthy chicks that have grown up to be beautiful pullets. I don't have experience with Hoovers but I did get a few from privette hatchery and those ones have given me trouble. The ones from Meyers have never been the least bit sick. Out of ten pullets though, I did end up with two cockerels. I will be ordering from Meyers again. It's a lot easier to deal with extra cockerels then sick pullets lol. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I've used both and neither has been markedly better or worse than the other. Both have sent me healthy birds, fulfilled my orders and offered great customer service.

I bought 8 chicks from Tractor Supply almost a year ago.
They source them from Hoover.
The 6 straight run Naked Necks turned out to be 3 males and 3 females.
One female died at 4 weeks and two of the cockerels went to freezer camp.
Of the remaining NN, the cockerel has turned out to be a great flock master and the two pullets lay well with large sized eggs.
One even lays a pink egg!
The two bantams were both cockerels and neither made it to a year old. :(

I ordered 13 chicks from Meyer in July.
One Australorp turned out to be a cockerel. He is a fine specimen and doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body.
One chick died at two weeks and I lost an EE pullet to a roaming dog because she had gone over the fence.
The rest of the pullets (Plymouth Rocks, Australorps, Speckled Sussex and an EE) are absolutely gorgeous and started laying in December.
They are all friendly and get along well with each other and my NNs and dominant sex link hen.
I’m very pleased with Meyers birds and will order from them again.

Ordered 15 chicks from Meyers last year, 13 Cornish X and 3 Blue Copper Marans. One of the Marans was DOA and another died that night. Out of the the 13 Cornish only 10 lived. Got a shipment from Hoover's last Thursday, 19 total. They arrived very lively and they're all still doing great. Hope this helps.

I have had a horrid experience so far. We ordered a group of about 30 chicks they canceled half of them even though we ordered about a month in advance and they shipped Tuesday and we have still not gotten them. We will not be able to get them until tomorrow which will be 4 days. They are not even far away from us (Iowa-Nebraska) not only did that happen they went to Minnesota before this and it’s not warm here or there. I’m afraid they are severely dehydrated by tomorrow or frozen
