MG? Coryza?

I just noticed my girl was staying next to me all day today. When I squatted to talked to her, I noticed her bubbles in her eyes. Upon research, I figured it could either be Coryza or MG? Is there a difference in the two? What’s the difference?

Demographics: SW Louisiana. She is either 11 months old or roughly 2 years old.
Symptoms: Nasal congestion and puffy face on the right side, eye bubbles bilaterally (possible sneezing - it was either her or my dog, but of course I always had my back turned when I heard a sneeze)

I isolated her in our brooder with fresh and clean water, food, and grass. I will give the apple cider vinegar and garlic today as suggested online.

Any personal experiences, treatments, prognosis, advice, and information is welcome!

Have you recently brought home any new birds?
ACV nor garlic are going to help.

Is a vet visit an option?

I haven’t introduced any new birds since late summer. I haven’t seen a vet yet. A) I need to find one that treats chickens. B) I’ve been busy cleaning out the coop and isolating this one.

I was asking if a vet visit would be an option.

Either would be an option. But if anyone has experience and can give me advice on how to treat at home, that would be preferable.

You will need antibiotics to treat either but are you aware that these illnesses/diseases don't go away?

A vet would be able to do a swab test to let you know what you are in fact dealing with so you can decide how you want to move forward.

It could be nothing more than she got some dirt in her eye.
I'd start by rinsing the eye will some human saline wash.

Baytril would be a good med for either MG or coryza.
It is banned for use in poultry though.

What I couldn’t find in my minimal research was ways to clean her, how long to isolate her, and how to disinfect my permanent coop/run area.

I have some saline. I’m going to go rinse her eyes. That was my next question, so thanks!
I’ll be hitting up our local tractor supply next to get some antibiotics and immune boosters for her and the rest of my flock.

Unfortunately you're probably not going to find any antibiotics at your store, that is why I asked if a vet visit was an option.


As far as keeping her isolated I don't really believe that's necessary... If she has something 'serious' the other birds have already been exposed to it.
