Gidday,
Well Mice are supposed to be "pests" so I stuck this here!!
Ive got humane mouse traps in the coop and Im catching them. It seems that they have no Preds in the coop so their numbers are multiplying more than the greys in my hair!!!
Now I have them in a big box with a little water and feed container so they dont get thirsty or hungry.
Yes I know Im nuts but I cannot kill something that is healthy unless its venomous and in my house.
Now My dear cat is babysitting the box and it is 12.21am here.
Where will I take my little friends to rehome them?
Should I take them to the bush for a change of scenery making sure they have logs to hide in!!!
I cant think of any people that I dislike to put in their yards.
Purple chicken lives too far away to send them as a xmas gift and i like him anyhow!!!
These little fellas have such sweet little faces and little ears.
Any kind suggestions???

Well, if you have a bunch to release, you can pack yourself a picnic lunch and drive them off into the hinterlands to let them go. Don't wait too long, or little babies will soon be on the way...
As for long-term solutions - doesn't your kitty like to eat mice?

If you release them make sure it is far away as they will probably make their way back to your place. Do you have a barn kitty? If you don't, get one that is from barn stock. Freebie has 2 barn kitties both spayed females one is from barn cat stock and she is a real good little hunter. The other one was a stray(housecat stock) that someone gave to her. Hotwings(the housecat stray and yes I got my username from the cat lol) doesn't hunt anything at all. So the other one does the bulk of the hunting. She got them as kittens and the roo kind of put them in their place so they don't go after the chickens. Let us know what you did with your mice, hey ya ever seen the movies Ben or Willard? Ya can train them to do your evil biding like the guy in the movie lol.

Seriously, just make sure you take them far enough away........... myself......I will pass. I have big rats here

Watch out for bugs and disease they carry too. I know here a few years back, our mice were carrying some transmittable disease that could be inhaled through their droppings. Unlikely but never know. I would just dispose of them....

You could always put them in a aquirium or bucket and give them lots of water, woudnt want them to get thirsty, so 50cm(notice I converted so no mistakes) should be plenty.

If they are field mice (not sure where you are) and you are relocating them, try to find a place that isn't only woodsy but also had grassy fields or they won't be able to find the food they need. If you release them on the edge of those 2 kinds of habitats they may find what they need (shelter and food) and they may stay together and at least have buddies to figure things out! My dad always releases in this way and then being the great big heart that he is, also leaves with them a decent supply of seed and stuff to get them started on their new lives. Sounds like something you might do! (I'm the same way

Muddy, that is so mean, I thought Purple was bad but youtake the cake mate!!!

Thankyou for the replies, I told my son about the mice in the box, so he went outside and came back in and said "what mice?" Either they escaped or my cat helped them, I did hear him eating something crunchy during the night.
Oh well next time ill have a better lid on the box.

EWWWWWWWWW, eating something crunchy in the middle of the night, next time take them somewhere else right away if you don't want to kill them. I hope he was just eating a grasshopper, do y'all have those there or do you call them something else?
