Michigan Hatchers! What'cha got cookin?

lisa i take my broody completely off the nest when i  collect fresh eggs, i find fresh eggs in her nest  everyday, she will go out eat drink poo and then go back to setting, its a win win.. that way i know she atleast ate  and not starving, hope that helps

....

This morning my broody was sitting nicely on her eggs, then I had to be gone most of the day. When I came home, my broody on day 2 was sitting up in the nest boxes. I quickly felt the 13 eggs and they felt cold. I moved her down to the mouth of her broody box and she walked in and started turning the eggs and now is sitting on them again. I have no idea how long they were left. Do you think they've been compromised? I was gone from 8 am till 4 pm. Starting tomorrow, I want to do as you suggested and carefully remove her and then watch over her nest while she eats and does her thing. I'm not sure I'll be able to do this every day, but I'm hoping she'll start knowing how to return to HER nest. The thing is, I moved her in the middle of the night from the nest boxes, so she probably isn't programmed yet to return to her new nest on the ground, lol. She needs my help!!

I think they will be ok

I have 21 eggs between 4 hens right now being hatched out for a chick order to fill for a customer. They all swap spots and eggs but doing well. I normally would use the bator for chick orders but I only have 1 person currently wanting a doz. 2 months ago was another story with tons of customers and about 80 chicks sold.

Hatchin eggs are still going strong on sales. ;)

Shells are WAY too dark to see anything going on in them.

Buff orp, Speckled Sussex, and BCM due to hatch May 23-24th.
And another set of BO and SS eggs due May 29th.
My husband also just got me 12+ Turkey eggs for my Birthday today so I'm so happy!!!

Worst hatch ever. 1 hatched out of 12 eggs. The sad part? Every single egg that died had a fully developed chick. One was even moving but died even with no veins or yolk on the outside.

Now I have a broody I don't know what to do with. I'm afraid to give her Copper (only surviving chick) as he was the first chick I have ever hatched and the fact he's the only chick. I don't have any eggs to give Luna, the broody anyways. So she will be sitting for a while I guess.

Here's my baby Copper. RSL x EE? cross. Has the cute poofy cheeks and really stubby legs. He's very soft. Has ginger chipmunk stripes on his back and his wings are a tinted white color :).

How was your humidity DURING incubation? sounds a lot like when I didn't run my incubator completely dry until lockdown. Sorry about your bad hatch. :(

I'd say try giving your broody the lone chick. No fun being raised alone. :/

I did a dry hatch till lockdown. Honestly, I never had a humidity checker. I just put it a moist towel :/. Need to get one next time.

Ok, I will see to it. Right now we are away and won't be back till Tuesday.

Tuesday may be too late to graft a new chicky to a broody. The chick may already be used to lights, etc. You can try it and supervise for awhile to see...

My Wyandotte just hatched out 3 chicks on Tuesday with the help of two turkey hens! As soon as the chicks were close to hatching the two turkey hens decided they wanted in on it and started sitting on or right next to my broody Wyandotte. The Wyandotte managed to hatch out three beautiful lil' chicks and now they appear to be co-parenting. I don't know how this is going to work, I'm worried the chicks will get stomped by the turkey hens. Yesterday they took the chicks out of the nest and into the pen for the first time. It was super cute but those turkey hens will just about kill anyone who comes near those chicks! Even me I think!!! Maybe it will be ok, I'll just be keeping a close eye on them.

We also hatched out 2 turkey poults in the incubator Thursday. Had 5 eggs in there and only two hatched :( These are from my Tom that I lost not too long ago and we still have 16 more turkey eggs of his in another incubator. Along with duck and chicken eggs. I really like the chicken momma brooder best though! Less work and worry for me
